Nice find. I always wonder what the story is behind this abandoned stuff. Sometimes I see a children's shoe or mitten on the street. What has happened? How can you loose a shoe without noticing?

I don't get it, either. It was an empty parking lot with just this shoe in it. The parking lot also made a good space for people learning to drive because I noticed two cars doing just that.

Today's is from my church again with a couple of teen model volunteers. The one on the right is my oldest daughter, and the other is a friend.

That was a successful trip to the aqarium Cliff3, lot of beauties...

Thanks. Unfortunately they are redoing the display of which the jellyfish are a part, so there were only a few jellyfish on display. The jellies were what I was down there to get - they're kind of surreal.

This is actually my first time in POTD. I just got my first "real" tripod (a Manfrotto 055XPROB and a 322RC2 Joystick Head) and this is from the first set of shots with it.

Waiting for spring here in Toronto. -17ºC tonight.

Still kickin' the good ol' Nikon D40. :) Will probably upgrade to a D90 or D7000 by year's end.

Beautiful picture! It's -30ish in my part of Calgary. And let me say, even though it's getting a bit dated, the D90 is a FANTASTIC camera, you seriously cannot beat the price for such a fantastic camera. If you're planning on upgrading, and don't wanna spend the cash on the D7000... definitely go for the D90.

Nice photos, dudes. Ummmm the new thread is up...:) It's February on the International Date line...

Dale

Whoops, I didn't see it!

Nice shot jabbot. I particularly like the gray-scale effect of the sky. Not to ask for trade secrets, but did you use a graduated filter on this one?

Thanks for the compliment. The sky was a very deep blue near the top of the photo, and a much lighter blue towards the horizon. This seems to be common for winter skies in Colorado. As such, no graduated filter was necessary to achieve the effect. The only other thing I did was set the photo to B&W using Aperture, with the blue channel at 100% and the red and green channels both set to 0%.

Amazing use of light and composition. This is one of those shots thats makes "centered" work.

68 second exposure? How did you meter this?

Dale

Cheers Dale, I take a lot of night photos over 30s I guess I just have a knack for getting the settings correct 1st time.

I saw this stunning photo from my Flickr feed. What was the light source behind it?

It was lit by an oddly placed floodlight, the photo's taken from an almost diagonal angle to the monument

Here's mine...

These are the lower Little Stoney Falls in southwest Virginia...we just had a big snow melt and the water was running!

Enjoy and comments welcome...
