^I really like the mood here Dale, nice lighting.
Thanks for the comments. This is one of those locations that has a ton of possibilities. I'll keep shooting it until I get it right.

Remarkable photograph. Great lighting and composition.

I like this shot a lot. I also can't help but wishing to see this same angle in the fall with the trees in color. I guess I still miss taking pictures in the fall...
Thanks again. Fall is a bit tricky here in the Pacific NorthWest, the color days can last for a brief time.

Hi everyone! This is my first submission although I've been following MacRumors and the POTD thread for a few years now. This photo was taken at a hotel on South Beach last Saturday around 11:30PM.

Canon 60D
Nikkor 14mm (with Nikon to Canon mount)
ISO 100
f/11

Welcome. This is a very well composed photo with an interesting subject. The only editing suggestion I would offer is to crop the light out from the top center. I find it distracting from the quality of the photo.

She thinks my tractor's sexy! This is from the same horse pasture that I posted a horse picture last month.

Cute photo of your little Danboard. I think that's what you call it.:). Is this guy ever going to wear out? What will you do then???

Dale

Danboard or Danbo. Either or, same thing :)
And he will never wear out! I take him everywhere I go. I was so bored today I took him for a walk to a near by park and we had a wee laugh. It's good for the soul.

I like this one. I started a mini-project this year of taking pictures of shopping carts or including one in a picture whenever I go shopping somewhere. This one is similar to my little project.

Picture I took in the summer at Chicago Botanical Gardens.

Good Morning Everyone! Thanks for the helpful feedback and warm welcomes. I've used a DSLR for a few years for work, but mostly in Program Mode, without creativity (frowned upon), slightly overexposed, and always with a flash to show all detail w/ no shadows.

A focus on framing, composition, and techniques (and not always using the flash!) are the areas I've been trying to focus on this past month.

This photo was shot with a Canon 60D, 18mm focal point, f/3.5, ISO 640, and 1/50s.

Good job of capturing a compelling moment. There's a wonderful tension of suspense here: who will prevail?

Lovely image and a very good example of how to break the 'rules'. The tentacles make alluring lines to lead the eye out of the center, and the repeating patterns around the edges echo that central subject and help to "frame" it. The symmetry gets broken up all over the place, so the image manages to avoid the 'static' look that comes along with most centered subjects. It's a risky kind of composition, but I think it works here.

Thanks. I have others where I like the composition better, but the images aren't sharp enough to be useful. I never realized how tough it is to shoot at an aquarium. The lighting was fairly dark, and I was using a CP to eliminate any reflections off the glass. Those things meant I was shooting at ISO 3200 or 6400 with a very shallow DOF (I took a 24-70 f2.8 and 85 f1.4 with me) at barely acceptable shutter speeds. Then throw in a bazillion little kids who seemed constantly underfoot...

A small family gravesite by the side of a road I've travelled on for 16+ years, and I've never noticed it was there until this week.
