Montana Folk Festival's Field of Heroes

Each flag represents a hero, whether it is a veteran who has served and passed away, or a personal hero, or a hero who is on active duty serving and protecting our freedoms. The background is the Belmont mine headframe.

Vancouver skyline before the July 1st fireworks. The blurry object on the left is a freighter anchored in the inlet that was drifting slightly during the long exposure.

And me without a shilling to my name

In our town many Irish and Cornish settlers migrated here because of the mining industry. That heritage still exists.

Everest

Finished leading a workshop a few months back to Everest - best I've ever seen it and thought I would share! My good friend who is there about 20 times / year said this is the second best sunset over Everest he's ever seen.

Cheers,
Brian

I love that. Looks like its on fire.

I have to make do with local, up close scenery. I do like it when I fret all day about what to get for a picture of the day, and then I walk out to the mailbox and the picture is right there in front of me. 5 minutes later I'm done.

great colors!

I hope the car driving by isn't yours, and that you stopped first before jumping out. :)

Semi-relevant trivia:

Some Aussie farmers leave their 4WDs in gear whilst jumping out to open the cattle gates, let the vehicle drive itself through, shut the gate, then jump back in (before it gets away ;)) and continue driving

(But no, that wasn't my car :p)

Sorry to those waiting for the FF AutoTimg plugin, I haven't gotten around to it just yet but will soonish.

I was at my parents house and I had been staying there for about a month as my sister was in town from out of state., I moved into my old room with some essentials, (my Mac :D) and so today I began gathering stuff and going back home, I grabbed my mac and I went to open my passanger door to put the Mac in and it was locked, so I turned around and say it down on the porch, and went to my Driver door, unlocked the other passanger door and went back around the truck, I saw my mac sitting there, amongst flowers in a unnatural place for a computer to sit, and I thought that would be a neat photo. So I grabbed my iPhone 4 and snapped a photo, played with it in Aperture and there you go. Im not a photographer, just like snapping pics. This stood out, I thought it was cool. :) I made the shadows darker, and saturated it, and brought out the colors of the flowers and the grass. As I said, unnatural.

From the initial glance at the picture and the start of the story I thought you were going to say that you turned back from the car to find a gust of wind had blow the iMac off the step! Fortunately it hadn't.

The weather has been so beautiful the past few nights here with the storms.

Great picture, love the clarity and sharpness. Any tips on how you accomplished it?

My photo was taken at a party at the weekend. All "effects" achieved within the camera. I am just looking for some more creative ways to differentiate my pictures from my other friends who seem to take the most boring pictures possible alas it comes with being part of the facebook generation!
