I quite like the feel of your earlier one from May...

But this one doesn't really work for me...

I agree with sonor in that I prefer the shot with the BMW. The shallower DoF for the first one makes a big difference. I also think it works better as a landscape to focus attention on the car, though the same shallow DoF on the Aston might make an interesting image. I like how the cars are cut rather than shown in full.

I'd have preferred to take this at 90º to the houses but there were some boats moored up on the other side of the basin who's masts blocked the line, very inconsiderate! C&C much appreciated.

I'm of the opinion that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Let's try that. :)

As long as criticism is not considered, um, un-nice. As a photo enthusiast, I'd rather hear the criticism so I can get better. It's good to hear what you have done well as those comments reinforce your understanding of the process. Without constructive criticism, though, it's difficult to grow in your hobby.

Wow. I step away for a few days and come back to a roiling board.

Folks. It's art.

Yeah there is a certain level of technique involved (as with all medium) but beyond this it is all creative expression.

Which is what makes art so fun, interesting, and controversial.

OK, I'll have a go. Whenever we reduce something to a silhouette in a pic, it's best if it still creates a recognisable shape. This isn't some 'rule of photography', just an observation. For example, if a person's head is in silhouette, it really only works if seen from front (or back...) or, better still, in profile. A 'three-quarter' view won't make much 'visual sense'.

At first sight your pic looked like a ship, or a submarine, silhouetted against the sky. I looked again, and realised it was actually a stand in a stadium, surrounded by floodlights. The silhouette itself isn't too interesting, and the sunset is pretty low-key too. There's no real subject, and the pool of black in the foreground adds nothing to the pic. So I wasn't sure what it was about this particular scene that interested you.

Thank you very much Doylem, this is exactly the type of criticism that I look for.

The light and shadows really work with subject matter magnificently... mother nature was on your side! One could have spent an hour dodging and burning without such wonderful results.
