Here is mine. I had to take about 200 pictures to get this semi-good one of a thunderstorm over Berlin.

Elisha--I just have to agree that your last photo was mesmerizing.

Seattle--That bacon thing makes my heart hurt.

Keleko--I love a lot of things about the prayer flag photo: the subject, the context, the colors, the treatment... thank you.

My humble contribution for the day:

While many people think of the common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as a pesky weed, herbalists consider it a valuable herb with many culinary and medicinal uses. Dandelion is a rich source of vitamins A, B complex, C, and D, as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, and zinc. Its leaves are often used to add flavor to salads, sandwiches, and teas. The roots can be found in some coffee substitutes, and the flowers are used to make certain wines.

Yum?

Quoting Images - Using TIMG

I like these subjects that make for a sort of natural monochrome.

Great shot! Love the look in the eyes and love how clear the shot is. Very nice.

I have a new pet-peeve. Instead of displaying the image being referenced in a response, we now just get the word Image with an underlying link. This is terrible in a response like above because now to see what the responding person is referring to, we have to use the back link post button (that little blue boxed arrow), or the image link. This breaks the flow of reading the thread.

I suppose this was implemented because people were not using the TIMG tag. The special thing TIMG does is set the width of a referenced image to 300 pixels wide. It does not save on bytes being sent from Macrumros since it references the original image on another server.

I encourage people to take advantage of this capability. It makes following the thread much nicer.

For those interested, here is what I do.

When you hit the quote button this is what the editor shows for the image link.
PHP:
[quote="Elisha, post: 12689778"][url=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/5802687941_bd0e9e5133_b.jpg]Image[/url][/QUOTE]

Where you see the URL tags, I change it to look like this. (I'm excluding the quote tag here for clarity.)
PHP:
[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/5802687941_bd0e9e5133_b.jpg[/img]

The resulting HTML in Sarfari looks like this;
Code:
<a href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/5802687941_bd0e9e5133_b.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" width="300" alt="Thumb resize." src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/5802687941_bd0e9e5133_b.jpg" /></a>

The resulting image is thumbnailed like this;
5802687941_bd0e9e5133_b.jpg

P.S. The sample above is for demonstration purpose only. I just grabbed two response samples that matched the model.

P.P.S. I used the PHP tag above because using the CODE tag doesn't work properly when entering the TIMG or QUOTE tags. Broken forums software? Unfortunately this causes changing colors.

P.P.P.S Designer Dale has posted a new link in his introduction to this thread which also explains fixing this problem. His sample also shows dealing with linking to a Flickr users photostream.

Here is my first post. All critique welcome. It's the only way I'll get better. I just started shooting this year with my first DSLR, the D3100 equipped with a Tamron 12-270 and a Nikon 35mm F1.8. These shots were with the Tamron.

Well, first things first, its photo(singular) of the day. please abide by the rules. Second, the kid shot is okay. Seems a little soft, but that could just be my bad eyes. Third, shooting through the fence like that on the second one.... its way too distracting.

The "downdate" to the VB code happened befor the major site revamp. They tweaked the code to allow a tag for imbedding a YouTube video in a post and added code to strip an image from a post. There was a discussion about it in the Site and Forum Feedback a month or so ago. We here in the photo forum like to see images in quotes and large linked images for viewing, but the Admins seem to think that we should keep everything nice and small. We sometimes have everything over 800px wide changed to a thumbnail. There is nothing in the site rules that says images must be no larger than x wide, but we still have this enforced on us. The issue has come up before, and we all ways wind up on the short end of the stick. The best I can do is to keep up with my tutorials every time they give us a change that we don't want. Keeps me (and you) busy..

This lovely girl was standing on her roof in the (most likely) student housing neighbourhood across UofT. She was calling out to anyone walking down the street to say Hello to her friend on Facetime video chat.
