I got stir crazy one day and decided not to let the falling snow stop me from looking for photo ops. So I snowshoed out to this lake, originally looking for the swans that live on it. I previously posted a photo here of flipper prints in the snow where some swan had ventured out of the water for some snowshoeing of his own. I found those right away. I never did find any of the swans, but I had no trouble identifying which route the they were taking to get across the lake. :)

I hope you were standing on the shore for this shot Phrasikleia.

I have to ask, are you sure they're swans you're looking for? I mean large strange footprints...in the snow and ice. Hmmm...could it be???

Mine for today: Winter Guardians

For one horrible moment I thought that was the track you'd made across the lake!

EDIT: Wonder why Phrasikleia's photo isn't showing in the quote?

Yes, feet firmly on land, don't worry. ;) You're right, the idea that it could be swans is pretty far-fetched. The abominable snowman makes a lot more sense.

Your photo has a very nice Gursky-esque minimalism about it.

I may not be playing with a full deck, but I'm not missing that many cards!

The photo will show when quoted only if you edit the link to have timg tags at either end. That auto-timg plugin never did work for me.

What a charming window. It's great how organic the various pieces of it are, and of course the complementary color scheme is very photogenic.

Good to see you back on POTD... Not like you ever left, just nice to see your photos.

Barry

Thanks Barry. Although I haven't been posting, I have been taking lots of pictures. Trying to take my photography up a level over the past few months, mainly through pursuing a personal project to shoot my home town during the so-called "blue hour" twilight period. I'm now slowly going through what I've shot, trying to curate the shots I'm most satisfied with.

Speaking of which:

Lol! Just teasing! :D

Ah, thanks, I tried to apply it retrospectively and nothing happened. I use the semi-automatic one normally and it works a treat.

Thank you! It made me wonder, did it start life like that, made out of various bits of wood, or has it been patched up over time? I usually put in the origin of the photo and forgot. This was taken at Roussillon in the south of France. It's by an old ochre quarry with trails one can walk for a small fee. Most of the buildings are faced with various shades of red ochre and a few with yellow ochre. The town and quarry are a photographer's paradise and well worth a visit, even if only for the home-made ice cream sold by a little shop there!

This one could, I think, be fairly described as monochromatic and was taken on the ochre trail in Roussillon:
