It has been snowing the past few days, but today it warmed up. This was taken on our evening walk. The Highland Mountains are white once again.

On the Bridge ... This is an open bridge , probably nice in good weather but I don't envy those on duty when it's cold and rainy even though there's a canvas awning above . This main wheel operates the rudder hydraulically . There's a much larger purely mechanical backup wheel towards the stern . The midshipman who was with us said it takes several guys to move , and several turns of the wheel to move the rudder 1 degree . A whole lot of energy expended to turn a nearly 400' ship.

Can we all say "whip-hair-back-n-forth" :D
I told them this shot is contest worthy, what do you guys/gals think?

It’s a good shot, certainly. “Contest-worthy”? I’m not so sure. The ambience is great: you can’t beat sunshine on water! But having the sun in the picture (twice... in the sky and reflected in the water) creates ‘hotspots’ - and some ugly flare - which take the eye away from the girls. The figures look too far away; by going closer, you might have been able to shoot from a lower angle, so that their heads were above the horizon.

I think you should have another go, and try to get more impact from a very promising situation. Looks like fun anyway... for all concerned...

This old geezer sure gets around!:);)

Indeed... but not quite as fast as he used to... ;)

May blossom in the Troutbeck valley...

In camera HDR from the 5D3 (this is the royal palace in Madrid)...

That looks great! What format is the resulting image?

This is a timber fly, Pantophthalmus bellardii (or as my friend named it, the "Mutant Leopard Fly"), seen during a recent visit to Rancho Grande Biological Station (Venezuela). These flies are quite large, and they sound like a small helicopter when flying around.
