Wow, May is off to a great start. I've been traveling and am just getting caught up here. Too many interesting photos to comment individually, but I'm about to go back through and expect I'll be wearing out my mouse with all of the 'up arrows' I'll want to click! ;)

Here's one from last week:

Took this picture just before my friend's wedding yesterday. Any input or criticism is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The photo is overexposed by at least a third of a stop, blowing the highlights on the faces.

The composition is a little wide (on the right side - the window and the landscape lighting is distracting) and it's awkwardly framed, vertically, to cut off feet and legs.

I think I know what you were trying to do, but it doesn't clearly communicate any narrative. Nothing about it says 'wedding' -- I wouldn't have thought it, had you not said something in the caption. While I appreciate trying to grab an interesting/intense candid, it probably would have been better to recreate the scene as a set-piece, shooting from a lower-angle with a telephoto, cropping tighter on the center figure.

Brill photo!

Here's one from a field only a minutes walk from where I live. I don't know which one i prefer out of the two - the first hasn't got the plane trail which I find distracting, but the second has better colours in the sky and the sun is in a nicer position slightly behind the clouds.

Agree that the highlights are blown slightly. With all the guys wearing black suits and sunglasses, and with the American flag in the background, it almost looks like they could be secret service! But thats just me :D

The photo was completely candid, I was just clicking away at everyone goofing off before we left the house. Ended up liking the way everyone turned out in this one. So maybe I shouldn't of said anything about the picture being before a wedding, as it doesn't seem very wedding like.

I have read a lot about not leaving subjects directly in center of the image. Thats why I left a bit on the right, seems I have much to learn on that theory, as I didn't even think about the window and landscape light being distracting.

And now that you say it, the faces are over exposed. Simple mistakes I should pay attention too I guess.

Again, thank you for the feedback, its much appreciated. I'm still fairly new to the photography world and have much to learn.

Been away for some months for all kinds of life reasons that I am happy to say are now behind me; looking forward to getting back in to the MacRumors photo threads.

Here's a late evening capture from early last week. 2 ND filters overlaid allowed a 30 sec exposure, effectively eliminating the vehicles on the bridge and smoothing out the water.

Havent posted in this thread in quite a while as my camera was in the shop and was posting a lot from my archives. But my camera is back and I also posted this in the weekly contest. A nice portrait of a girl at the indian festival the other weekend.

Really like your picture! Do you have a Flickr account or similar site with more of your work?

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, same name on Flickr (AxisOfBeagles).

Love the backlighting in that picture - did you use any filters to control that?

No filters where used when taking the picture! Just manually exposed to get a nice silhouette and I played with the Shadows and Blacks controls of Lightroom to bring even more darkness to the silhouette.
