Come springtime, the macro lens always gets dusted off.

The photo was completely candid, I was just clicking away at everyone goofing off before we left the house. Ended up liking the way everyone turned out in this one. So maybe I shouldn't of said anything about the picture being before a wedding, as it doesn't seem very wedding like.

I have read a lot about not leaving subjects directly in center of the image. Thats why I left a bit on the right, seems I have much to learn on that theory, as I didn't even think about the window and landscape light being distracting.

And now that you say it, the faces are over exposed. Simple mistakes I should pay attention too I guess.

Again, thank you for the feedback, its much appreciated. I'm still fairly new to the photography world and have much to learn.

I believe that part of what mustang_dvs was getting at is that you want to try to avoid cropping limbs at the joints. Sometimes a little more or a little less crop will be less visually offensive.

I did a quick crop and horizon adjustment. Coming in tighter brings the focus to the central character. It also keeps him near the thirds like you were looking for. As for not cropping an image in the center of the frame - use that as a guideline and not a rule. Look at photos and figure out what you find pleasing about them. Then look to bring some of that into your own shots.

The overexposure was a tough one in that circumstance. The camera is going for an average meter value and has difficulty seeing the highlights. You could have either shot manual and set all the exposure values or used exposure compensation to bring it down 1/3 or 1/2 stop.

The best thing you can do is to keep clicking that shutter. Over time you will become more comfortable with the whole process. :)

Been away for some months for all kinds of life reasons that I am happy to say are now behind me; looking forward to getting back in to the MacRumors photo threads.

Here's a late evening capture from early last week. 2 ND filters overlaid allowed a 30 sec exposure, effectively eliminating the vehicles on the bridge and smoothing out the water.

Welcome back. :) It's nice to see a glimpse of the Bay Area. I've been away for a few months now and am feeling a tad nostalgic already.

And here is glimpse of my other 'home.' :) Impressive sharpness for a handheld shot on a Coolpix camera in that kind of light.

Wow the shots from this month have blown me away!
I started clicking quote buttons but there are too many terrific shots here to respond to, so I'll say a collective keep up the great work team :)

Reef, a beautiful. mystical photo! I love this one. Any light painting involved or is that just reflected light off of the waves on the rock formation?

Thanks fcortese! :) yes good spotting, I shun a torch back and forth over the scene to make it pop, the light was quite dark by that point so I locked in a bulb exposure. Such a great place!

That's quite extraordinary, Reef! I can just imagine it as a picture from another planet.
Thankyou Ish :)

Incredible, as usual! Do you have any photos from Townsville? I am visiting there this summer and would love to see some good shots.

Thanks Mel, that's exciting! I don't have any photos of Townsville but a road trip up that way is definitely something I want to do.
It's about a 25 hour drive north of where I am.

I suspect you're going to see the Great Barrier Reef?

Here's some pix (not mine) on 500px:

If you are going to see the reef, be sure to go on an underwater tour, the boats have a glass section below allowing you to see the marine life. It'd make for some incredible photography!
