Smoke:

Smoke from a blown out candle. Flash with homemade snoot and red filter fired from left.

The funny thing is, I shot this last night and today there was an article on smashingmagazine.com dedicated to smoke photography.

iGary - great bridge shots. I passed through there yesterday and wanted to stop along there, but was in a hurry to get to Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP and grab a shot of the beach at sunset on my way back to San Diego.

This picture was taken at our local botanical gardens while I was looking for something to shoot, when I turned a corner, and this little guy was right in my face. He didn't even fly away when I got right up close.

Taken with a nikon d90 using a 55-200mm lens.

Now this is a beautiful sight. Hard to believe it's england. Could have been scotland. Desolate landscape, fences leading the eyes into the image. What's behind the corner? I really like this one Doylem. (and hardly any oversaturated green :) )

Never sure if I like HDR photography, I feel it sometimes doesn't look like a real photograph... but screw it, I'll try one anyway!

This was taken from 3 exposures with my new EF 24-70mm F/2.8 L lens

I like this one, Top of the Rock? anyway, maybe try to go into photoshop and dodge the tops of the buildings just to lighten them up?

Slightly old, haven't had a chance to take pics for a bit. Old A&P painted sign.

Shot at night, hand held the flash from the side with a red filter on the camera. Shutter: 2, f/8, ISO 400, 24mm

Yeah - 'top of the rock'

I know what you mean, and I toyed with the idea, however, the way the light was shining through the clouds, only the bottom of the empire state building was in sunlight... the rest was 'shadowed'

So that's my rationale for keeping it... :p

Thanks for the advice though!

Nice picture, however I can't understand the irony (or else why is your post named "irony"?)... Is it supposed to be related to the broken ad of pont neuf?

Yes. You'd think the "new bridge" would have a new sign, no? You'd also think the new bridge wouldn't be the oldest one in the city, but I digress.

I like this as well, very moody. While I completely agree about HDR not looking "real," I occasionally want to try it too. Could you recommend a good, simple link for how to do it?

One more of my friend with his guitar for today. That star-ish "design" on the guitar is the reflection of the umbrella...

Took my new k200d for a ride in the aspens, near my house yesterday. The leaves are just starting to turn.

The colour of the leaves began changing even earlier in some places. ;)

A friend said he thought the seasons were shifting, and so the cold winter months start later (in December) rather than in early November like it used to. I don't know the basis for this, but it really does seem like it.

Steve Job's Car, Cupertino CA.

Yes, just about every technical and compositional aspect of it sucks, but I love it. :D

Sorry, but I won't have another picture taking day until Saturday...
