A Monarch Caterpillar, taken yesterday with extension tubes and my macro lens handheld with no flash.

What on earth is that? A baby alien?

Considering that entire picture is about 12mm or half an inch across, it's a pretty tiny bug! I didn't see it with my eye when I scanned the flower initially to see if I needed to remove anything from the scene.

Nice shot ... I missed this one but then I'm not normally a fan of the drifting set. I'm more into the exotics ...

It was my first time there with my Caterham, I'll go back, it was fun ... even if you do have to get up ridiculously early on a Saturday.

Thank you. Yes, he was making a ton of noise as he entered the lot and I started firing away. I liked how I captured everyone else staring/taking pics at the car as he drove thru :)

I've been doing a photo a day for the past few days, each a different angle of the same object. Check out the set here and see if you can guess what it is - today's is a bit of a giveaway!

Feedback welcomed :)

Sweet, I love cars. Can't believe I was the first to give you thumbs up. Super 7's. Reminds me of The Prisoner. Can't wait to see some more. Cheers

Nice lens, you got the bridge of the nose perfectly sharp! :p

Thanks. A bit of a lucky shot (as a lot of mine tend to be these days).
He's still a bit of a puppy, which means it's almost impossible to have him sit still while I compose, focus and shoot. This one happened to work out pretty well, if I say so myself.

With our animals, that also are fidgety, I always focus on the eye, reframe, meter and shoot. I only use the centre point for focusing and have my camera set up for back button focusing. This way the shutter button deals only with metering and the back focus button focuses. It makes the process so much quicker then.

I always use the center point for focusing. but what's "back button focusing"? That one's new to me.

This is Canon's US site explaining about back button focusing.

Hope it helps, I reckon it was actually where I first learnt about actually.

This is a great article and explanation of BBF usage. I have my camera set up this way (I use the AF-ON button) and as a matter of fact just re-read this article today just to re-inforce how I use it. I strongly recommend you give it a try. Once you get use to it, it becomes natural.

Just read that article and tried it on my T3i! Where have you been all my life, BBF!? This is great!
(Gotta love how I learn new stuff every day, simply by asking questions and one thing leading to another).

Took about 5 minutes of getting used to, it's already second nature now. And I see how useful this can be when shooting action stuff or needing to focus then recompose.

Thanks guys!
