Looks like a scene from "Call The Midwife." Nice one.

Nicely timed and placed Peter!

I really like the blues appearing all throughout this scene and the nice detail.

Very cool Schtumple. I love the scale or proportion of you within this and the pose you have taken is perfect for musing about your place within the Universe.

A moody silhouette from last night.

Comments always appreciated.

This one doesn't quite work for me because of the proportions of black silhouette to sky. Take the silhouette line down considerably and wait for really interesting patterns to develop in the clouds to give the feast your eyes crave!

I'm seeing this really inky blue in cloud pictures a lot recently, is this a trend on flickr? I don't visit the site, so have no idea what's going on there.

Schtumple, you are really carving out a unique style in your photography. It's getting close to being able to say, "Hey, that must be a schtumple!" whenever I see one of your pictures. This one is a real keeper.

Spent some time playing in the backyard today. I have a whole set of these hibiscus shots, where I varied around the DOF. I'm not entirely certain which end result I like best (Will have to post a couple more tomorrow, due to limitation of one pic per day here).
First option was focusing on the stamen and blurring the petals for a backdrop.
Second option was more DOF, allowing the flower as a whole to show in detail.

Critique and Comments welcome.

Option 1: Blurred background. Too blurry in terms of composition?

Exposure 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 55 mm
ISO Speed 200

The focal point in the yellow pollen looks a bit strange (because they are so small in the picture). The 5 purple blobs (sorry I have no idea about proper names) would make a better focal point IMO. However feel free to totally ignore my comments as I'm such a newbie!
Looking forward to the remaining interpretations.

Personally would have pumped the ISO to get a shutter speed that would have frozen the motion blur in his hands.

Great shot either way.

Thanks.

Had I more then about half a second to plan the shot when I realized he was going to jump... :) There were people on the rocks all around me. I was watching the sky and silhouettes and happened to have the camera locked down on this formation. I didn't even have time to look through the viewfinder - just reached over and hit the shutter a few times.

It is always exciting when you setup for a shot and then something unexpected happens.

A little while latter he was standing on the top of the rock on the right. A flock of a couple dozen bats (do bats flock?) flew out of their roost for the night. From my vantage they were in the sky above the climber. Unfortunately they were too far away and looked more like noise when I got the images on the computer. Getting lucky on one out of two shots is an average I can live with. ;)

Hibiscus Round 2

From the hibiscus series, a bit more DOF on this one. The stamen area is a bit more in focus, the petals in the background are still blurry, but not as blurry as in the first example.

C&C welcome, as I continue trying to learn from this experiment.

EDIT: Adding EXIF info to both shots, for reference:

Exposure 0.013 sec (1/80)

Focal Length 55 mm
