They should've just made the battery another inch taller, modular connector on the bottom, a slot on the top ... tada, removable battery!

One thing I miss about my old mobile phone: its battery lasted for 6-7 days. That's days. Not hours.*
Guess we're still a few years off until Apple/iPhone hits that kind of performance.

* Nope. It was not a smartphone. I'm fully aware of that.

NEWS FLASH:

iPhone 5 will not have LTE. Apple claims LTE technology is not "mature" enough therefore will use the best technology currently available that responds to the best pro-longed device user experience.

iPhone 5S will include LTE when the technology matures enough.

I have to agree with you here, usage is already quite low.

Yeah look at the Razr Maxx they have a 3300 mAh battery in a thin frame. Will the iPhone need that much probably not since it most likely will have a more power efficient baseband but still if we follow the little LTE trend we have learned from the new iPad is that battery size and mAh rating needs to increase

Thats just a pipe dream we will never see that anytime soon the trends are moving away from removable batteries,Droid razr maxx lumia 900 HTC One X etc

You mean that these leaks beat the "lost phone in a bar" back in 2010 ?

Exactly. We knew exactly what the iPhone 4 was well before it was announced. Only a week away and we have no full working iPhone 5. (Now cue the "it's not an iPhone 5!" comments.)

:apple: is going through great lengths to ensure the iPhone 5 won't actually be leaked. I'm dead serious, i think the phone will look completely different than what we've seen through rumors.

That is with the first implementation of LTE. Not only was LTE coverage pitiful, the chips were power hungry and had to put in two radios since there wasn't a radio that had LTE, CDMA, and GSM integrated into it. So phone makers needed to put in one radio for LTE and another radio for CDMA and GSM.

Qualcomm released a chip that has everything on it and improved power consumption back in June I believe. And LTE coverage is a lot better this time around. So the conditions are right for an LTE iPhone.

Translation: iPhone 5 battery to be just a little less terrible than the iPhone 4S battery. Joy.

The iPhone battery has stayed roughly the same capacity since it was released, in fact some generations it dropped in capacity, yet battery life has increased because the phone uses less power. With the power savings in the processor and other components hopefully we will see a decent increase in battery life.

And the 3Gs for that matter. It's just that nobody believed that they'd leave the casing unchanged.

Nice big battery  ....... Youd think they would make it bigger then that
to compensate the larger screen and lte.

Thats why I'm calling Bullsh!it on the battery no way will they keep the battery in the 1400-1600-mAh range for an LTE device it just doesn't make sense

First of all, we're a week from the announcement and we haven't seen a single part that contradicts this design, so calling ************* on any of these parts is foolish.

Secondly, the iPhone "5" will use the second generation MDM9615 LTE chipset which is supposed to be much more power efficient. To my knowledge, there aren't any LTE phones on the market using this technology yet. Even the iPad 3 didn't get this chipset.

I expect to hear the same pitch we hear with every new Apple product: "All these great new features - SAME battery life."

Hopefully it works out better this time than it did with the 4S.

battery

Looks like two 2 batteries in 1 ... by the looks of it

Or it could be just one large one....

Seems that technology now days is geting smaller and smaller as a way to get the battery bigger and better, as a method to get longer performance..

Soon we shall see 99% of the iphone being one huge battery, with only a tiny section(s) would be the actual phone.

You would think, that they could have down sized the bettery instead.

I bet that day will come.

Well considering that phone showed the time and thats it, yeah sure 6-8 days. Be a long time before a SMARTPHONE can do that.

The New iPad.

Next.

You can't compare the LTE radio in the iPad to the one that will be in the iPhone - the iPhone's is a newer Qualcomm chip. More power efficient. Add to that the in-cell tech increases screen efficiency and I'm betting there are some efficiency improvements with the processor (dual A15s?) and the fact the battery isn't much bigger may not be an issue.

EDIT: Carmenia beat me to this! I completely agree - and personally think Apple waited for an LTE radio that was efficient enough for the iPhone.

That was one major leak that was a persons error, unlike the 15 seperate leaks we have had that werent left at a bar but where simply photographed while it was supposed to be kept hush hush
