Yes, never had leaks from suppliers like this. Do the math. Cook does not know how to manage suppliers.

:apple:

Cook has been managing Apple's suppliers since 1998. That was his job at Apple.

It is more likely we are seeing more leaks due to the simple fact that the iPhone is more popular than ever. There is more urgency for case makers to make leaks happen, and a larger production ramp-up means it's easier for them to happen.

I don't understand how people can go to LTE without unlimited data. I feel that I would burn through my plan in a heart beat.

This iPhone has more efficient components.

Yes, but think how much better battery life would be if they stopped trying to endlessly slim down the device (it's pretty great as-is) and crammed in a thicker battery instead.

That's what the carriers are banking on. :(

I just laugh at all the people automatically saying that battery life will be horrid. A picture of the battery automatically gives us every single detail of of the phone. I mean it is impossible that some of the other inner workings could have gotten more efficient. No that could never happen.

You can't compare the LTE radio in the iPad to the one that will be in the iPhone - the iPhone's is a newer Qualcomm chip. More power efficient. Add to that the in-cell tech increases screen efficiency and I'm betting there are some efficiency improvements with the processor (dual A15s?) and the fact the battery isn't much bigger may not be an issue.

EDIT: Carmenia beat me to this! I completely agree - and personally think Apple waited for an LTE radio that was efficient enough for the iPhone.

That was no mystery-that's exactly what they have been doing.

Cook was quoted as saying that the current crop of LTE chips would force too many design compromises and they were waiting until chips were made that met Apples needs.

That was last year I think. On an earnings call if I remember right. Maybe it was the 4S launch. I can't remember---

EDIT: ahh here you go---

While not necessarily bad, it's a joke that they lengthened the screen without widening it. You've got to laugh, it's so absurd.

In Portrait mode, you have the benefit of more viewing area...

In Landscape mode, you have _no_ change... it's half assed.

False. You'll benefit from extra space in landscape mode when viewing media such as widescreen movies and games and the change isn't insignificant. See https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1431952/

It wouldnt of minded if they had kept the same thickness of the iPhone 4s on the 5 if it meant the battery would be thicker and battery time would increase more dramatically

That is with the first implementation of LTE. Not only was LTE coverage pitiful, the chips were power hungry and had to put in two radios since there wasn't a radio that had LTE, CDMA, and GSM integrated into it. So phone makers needed to put in one radio for LTE and another radio for CDMA and GSM.

Qualcomm released a chip that has everything on it and improved power consumption back in June I believe. And LTE coverage is a lot better this time around. So the conditions are right for an LTE iPhone.

The only thing left is to activate VoLTE, which should deactivate the iPhone 5's 3G/4G HSPA+ chip to 100% use LTE. Oh and I hope LTE-A support is on the chip.

Well... this kind of confirms it... kind of. Oh well. I'll still be in line.

So sad that you've resigned yourself to buying a phone that clearly doesn't really excite or interested you, just because it's made by Apple.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. Go and discover one of the many hundreds of other phones out there - you might be pleasantly surprised.

So another barely lasts a day iPhone? We live in hope that maybe one day...

Don't worry mate, we all keep hoping for that very thing, unfortunately the hope soon turns to that familiar feeling of disappointment. :(

Theres that mystery rectangular cut out in the upper corner again. What the heck is that for???

The initial speculation was NFC (there was even some patent drawings showing the same size/placement), but then a few source (including The Loop) said it's _not_ (some sources were basing this on the antennae requirements, Jim @ The Loop has probably been told through one of this channels).

Another member here found a patent on some kind of speakerphone design that is a small, square not unlike that area you pointed out.

Mysterious :) I guess we'll know more in about 7 days :D

Translation: iPhone 5 battery to be just a little less terrible than the iPhone 4S battery. Joy.

The battery is slighly better, that doesn't necessarily mean the battery life will be any better, could be even worse. LTE and a larger screen. I know the new panel is suppoes to be more efficient but is it efficient enough to overcome the larger physical size and the additional power draw from the LTE chipset? We'll know soon.
