Two or three years from now, we'll likely look at the first-gen Apple Watch and say the same thing about it -- bulky and low-res display compared to future versions. Remember how the iPad evolved?

I can get bulky (mostly due to battery tech limitations), but low res? Compared to what? Something your eyes can't see? Or are you expecting us to all swap out of human eyes for eagle eyes in the future...

I do... it hasn't changed all that much.

This is going to need a lot more than just 4x as many pixels to be good. It's going to need to slim out a lot more to be good.

The iPad was a pretty good product when it was released. This doesn't look good to me. As others have said, good idea, poor execution.

Not only will that be uncomfortable sitting under your wrist, it will also scratch the crap out of your laptop. Perfect placement for a heartbeat sensor though.

This is the right direction but bad execution.

I'd prefer this method of "smart watch" than the Apple Watch. Yet that does seem bulky and low res.

There is a reason the watch face is on top of the wrist, not below it.. That's the first problem. Bulkyness is related to battery tech. If they had solved it, the Apple watch itself would be half as thick (5mm) and you maybe put THAT under your wrist ;-).

Dang. The other companies could at least TRY to make some decent competition for Apple!

They do try. People just really underestimate how hard it is to put together a desirable wearable with existing resources. Apple did a frickin amazing job and the competition has a huge uphill battle on their hands.

When I first saw this I commended MB on what looked like a solid defensive move.

But looking closer, it seems a DOA way of trying to make lemonade with lemons:
- it's gonna double the opportunity to catch your wrist when putting on a sleeve;
- it's gonna clunk and scratch nearly every surface on which you lay your wrist;
- it may even cause one's wrist to lay unergonomically on the table;
- it doesn't seem to touch skin in any useful way that can offer biometric feedback;
- it's built with the best display tech that the late 2000's can offer (reminds me of the early cheapo tablet displays.)
- seems hardly a premium product and a waste of time (pun intended) and money for MB to pursue in such an incarnation (if they are going to hit this fast moving target, they need to fire using both barrels.)

So true. It is really easy to say stuff like "why can't company X do this..." or "anyone can do this..." but reality is different. Underestimating is easy to do!

I'm taking a guess here... Not one on here owns a decent well crafted watch that costs over 4k? You know one that is actually hand made? Without a battery? If you have one you would realise that this concept is aimed at someone who wants the convenience of not holding your phone in your back pocket or shirt pocket but would like to see any notifications. This isn't designed to be an iwatch killer or replacement, its designed to compliment a crafted watch without the need to wear a brash battery operated piece of bling that you have to charge up every day.

Mac Rumours did a great bit of editing here by not telling you what its actually designed for and you all fell for it! Great click bait MR :)

Trust me, the last thing you want is something bulky in the front and back.

OMG its huge! You won't be wearing that with French cuffs (or any cuffs for that matter)

And be careful not to fall off your yacht. You'll sink like a stone. :)

That thing is so thick and huge! I'll wait for the slimmer Version 2.0.

I'm talking about the Montblanc watch itself, of course. No one would seriously wear a watch that thick, would they?

Yes, we will. But they're selling this thing NOW, not three years ago.

No thanks.
