I agree and I hate that it's an app by itself, if I wanted a voice recording app I'd download one. I don't want one to be taking up space on my phone otherwise. It would have been better had Apple just stuck it in the notes app.

It makes sense, you talk to the virtual mic.

STOP!!!

I can assure you that this is the old (current) 3G iPhone, because the person he writes about is a friend of mine. And no, there is no 4G iPhone in any of those pictures... Sorry people, he was just showing OS 3.0 (one day we got to learn Chinese, or they better learn PROPER English, but surely nobody should be fired because of this silly mixup!)

That's funny

See the attached photo, does the thing next to the speaker looks like a front camera?

How will the compass deal with the upcoming inversion of the magnetic poles?
To put it in laymans terms it would be as easy as reversing a battery in a cheap model engine where it then runs backwards. Easy programming change. Reagarding the poles, we have until December 21st 2012 and regardless, I will be spending that holiday season in Boston with my wife and family. Not los angeles. No way. LOL. But seriously.

Easy it means the Iphone knows the direction you are facing and walking / driving even at very very low speed where GPS is no good.

Means turn by turn directions as you walk rather than having to try to figure out which way the map should be orientated in references to the real world.

It could possibly say to you....
'You turned right instead of left'...'please turn around to head south on such-such street'
..or

'Dave, you didn't turn right,Dave'...'Why didn't you turn right dave?'...'Are you sure you're making the right decision Dave?'

GUYS dont believe that one guy saying he knows what it looks like blah blah blah

last year before the 3g came some guy did the same thing... came on here telling people all this "inside" info into the iphone3g and was here answering questions to all the GIDDY fanboys(such as myself) ..

i remember a quote he said.. if you thought the original iphone was revolutionary what till the new one is released.....

come release time it was all bull***** soo all im saying is dont let this guy play with your emotions .. we have 7 DAYS left till wwdc . just calm down and wait it out

EDIT: i believe these photos are real... i do not believe that one guy though saying his friend at apple sent him a pic

As said a thousand times in this thread, THIS IS AN EARLY PROTOTYPE OF THE NEW IPHONE. Containing the newer camera and compass. Apple could of easily been testing the new HARDWARE features BEFORE they redesign the case. So it's not hard to believe they are going to add even more hardware features (OLED Screen, extra camera for video conferencing) to the new iPhone after its been redesigned.

In less than two months? There is such a thing as production, further testing of those new features & distribution time

On another note. Why can't current 3G hardware do video recording?

Better camera please

It's SO annoying to hear people defending the iPhone's camera.. It's horrible. I love Apple, too, but that camera may have taken one decent picture in the time I've had the phone. With responses like "If you need a better better camera, buy a better camera".... NO! I have a very good camera. I want my iPhone's camera to be on par with other current cell phone cameras so that I can take a decent picture if I don't have my Nikon on me.

That's not crazy to ask.Bump the megapixels up, a flash would be amazing. Asides from all that, I'd like to see a higher capacity and faster processor. I'm really looking forward to a decent turn by turn app. While the google maps on my iPhone is cool, it's unusable while driving and it still feels like a beta. A very good beta mind you, but it's a little slow and finicky.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

That is a pretty near implementation on the autofocusing feature.

Well, in order for turn-by-turn navigation to work smoothly the maps need to be *on* the machine. Google maps and satellite images are pulled via 3G/GPRS/WiFi so it's bound to be slow and finicky. Those maps shouldn't eat too much memory; I've got all of Europe on a 2 GB card in my Navigon 8110, complete with POI and topography... I'd happily let an iPhone navigator claim 2 or even 4 GB, especially now that it looks like the next model will be 32 GB...

Having said that, I'm not really interested in using an iPhone as a car navigator... the screen is too small and fiddly. I hope they make the mythical netbook tablet function as a navigator, that would kick ass. A 7" or 10" screen that works both as a navigator and an entertainment center would be sweet.

This is not an early implementation. This is the new iPhone in a 3G casing. It is a common practice when testing new unreleased gear with mobile carriers.
