It's based on hints, cases etc. so it's not like they actually designed this thing or had a schematic to go against. This is purely speculation.

What surprises me is that the whole world is getting so excited over a damn phone. It's a phone for crying out loud!

Somebody (likely more people) actually put hours into creating CAD designs and then somebody put up the money to produce a one-off unit. Ok, it doesn't have the internals but still, it's just beyond me and I'm sure others will agree.
 
This mockup shows an iPhone 5 with 4 inch display and its dimensions are nearly the same of the iPhone 4. Chinese cases are bigger, so the real iPhone 5 could have a 4.5 inch display!!!

I dont get it? It's way uglier than iphone 4. I think it would be hilarious if that was actually the iphone 4s and the 5 had a similar case to the 4.
 
This gets everyones hopes up in preparation for the big let down when Tim Cook reveals... a brand new... iPhone 4.

Remember the Black metal MacBook Pro rumor and mockups? Here we go again.
 
If its not real, I want it to be. Those are gorgeous. I love all the mock-ups of the ipad-like reworking of the iphone chassis.

Well, Yeah!
But this one just looks more, Rectangular. You know what I mean? The iPhone 4, and below were curved. Looking at this mock up, I just don't like it. Looks way to much like the Samsung Galaxy. Don't know how to explain it. Just..Rectangular :p

Yeah, I agree. I don't know why, but this one just looks pretty boring. Other mockups seem more probable....I guess. I'm hoping the 5 will be really thin.

I like the iPhone 4 better. Im hoping for a 4s with an edge to edge screen.
 
And in standard fashion, some MacRumors users call something ugly until its introduced by Apple themselves, then it'll be praised.

Aside from the giant Apple on the back, I like it.
 
are people forgetting with an alu back like that it will need a plastic antenna strip ala iphone 1 and ipad 3g?

this is an exercise of frustration.

No wonder next week if the new iPhone ends up looking like the 4 we will be bombarded by thousand of negative posts. :rolleyes:
Sure we all want new great looking stuff, but I think the current model looks great and if they improve it further I will be more than happy with it. Apple usually overall the designs of the iPhone every two years, so I would not count this generation being dramatically different from last.
 
I hope not

Just try to operate the volume buttons on an iPod touch half of the time without it slipping out of your hands. That tapered design is a loser.
