How's this for an idea:

Everybody quit speculating a label this as FAKE until the OP can post some proof that what he's saying is true.

As of now, he hasn't even answered the build number question. Can't we just leave it for now?

iPhone 3G was actually released in New Zealand first (a full day before USA) and Australia second.

i understand that. but a software release is way different than a hardware release.

I'm sorry to be a jerk, but until i see someone take a screenshot of iTunes saying "There is a new version (3.0) available." or something of the sort, I'm going to choose to not believe it...

i don't know if i believe this....

apple is a US based company. Why would they release products abroad first? Also, who's to say you just didnt pirate the 3.0 GM. I'm 99% sure that if you were to have the GM on your phone (even before the firmware was officially released), and you clicked "check for updates" it would just tell you that 3.0 is the current version

Don't be stupid.

Apple said it would be available Worldwide on 17th June. It is now 17th June in Australia so they have released it there. You think Apple are going to hold back on everyone who are x number of hours ahead of America just for the sake of THEM being first?

Talk about overthinking things.

Not true, it says the 18th on the Apple Australian site.

hmmm... Can any more Aussies confirm?

iTunes is telling me 2.2.1 is the current version. I'm an Aussie.

Try again, OP.

He said "Available worldwide 17th June". Now that is obviously not true according the website. So he lied. Liars are bad bad people. I'm throwing my Mac at the wall now because of it.

Maybe because it'd be 'unfair' if New Zealanders/Australians got it almost a day earlier then their beloved US? I mean, releasing it here on the 18th instead means that there won't be as big a discrepancy between the software becoming available in different regions.

why do people insist on posting fake crap? what satisfaction do they get

Especially when they admit they didn't actually get the software via iTunes. Of course it's going to say 3.0 is the latest version, regardless of where they get it from...

Same thing happened with 2.0 last year. I remember on the night of July 11 (the day 2.0 and the iPhone 3G was released), I was waiting to see if Apple would give it to us 'early' (as in before it was really the 11th in the US) - didn't happen. There was just all that server crap where one second it'd say "a new version is available" before suddenly changing back to "your software (1.1.4) is the latest version". I don't see why Apple would change it this year...I did kinda hope I'd have it by the end of the 17th, but at least Apple's realised how dramatic the difference in timezones is and changed the Australian site to back it up. But oh well, it's only software, we'll have it soon anyway, that's what some people forget :)

Mine is real.

It's saying you're on the latest version...because you are. Doesn't mean it's been distributed via iTunes software update yet, though.

I think MacIver was referring to the OP, posting a topic based on what they thought was correct without actually testing to see if it was right beforehand.

At the time he said that, 3.0 was to be released on the 17th worldwide. After he said that, it was delayed a day. He didn't lie.
