I'm hoping its true black in color, if it's lighter I'm going with the ss version

It isn't. It's dark gray, like graphite in a #2 pencil, maybe slightly darker, and shiny.

This is the best exposed/color corrected pic of the watch I have been able to find and it is indeed a good color representation, assuming your screen isn't overly contrasty or something:

Is it just me or do some of these pics show the band to be sort of a matte finish while other pics show it to be a shiny finish?

My wife last night told me to start thinking of what I want for my birthday next month, and said I need to think of something cool because I only turn 40 once. Well, I can't think of anything right now except instead of getting the SS Apple watch with the black sport band and getting the black SS watch that we're talking about in this thread.

My biggest issue is that it's going to be too flashy and look awkward on me if I do decide to upgrade to this watch. I never wear long sleeves anymore because it's not needed where I work, so this watch will be shown all the time on me. But then on the other hand, when it was announced back in September I fell in love with it immediately. Only to be turned off by the huge price tag last month.

So, now my dilemma is if I should just go for it and get the black SS watch or should I go with the regular SS watch with the sport band and save the $500? What would you guys do in my situation?

First, happy early birthday. Welcome to the rolling 40's club. There's no turning back now or putting on the breaks! Seems like time speeds up faster and faster from there.

I am the same way. I prefer non-flashy watches. All mine are SS or older black divers watches. I am going to order the SS black hoping it won't be too flashy. However, everyone will be on the lookout for the new AW. What ever watch you choose, it will get attention.

You're only 40 once, like you said. You also said you'll be wearing this at work always? Get the most professional looking one.

Will go plain SS for sure. Only gripe with the link bands - I wish they had made the first 4-5 links closest to the connectors a little wider. Maybe next year.

Check out the video in the second post and as he says the last video is the better one. Seems to give a much better look than pics do. I'm pretty set on space black but I'm going to go in and check both out for sure. I'm kind of between sizes as well so I'm hoping to compare a 38 and 42 one SS and one SB. As long as I can do that I should be able to answer all my questions with the 2 try on you get.

It shines, for sure, but it's not mirror finish like the body. It's lightly brushed (by hand!) so it's going have a softer reflection quality.

I'm really having a hard time deciding on which SS to get....I may just order a Space Black SS and a standard SS with Milanese loop and have two watches that I can freely swap based on wardrobe.

I think overall I like the Space Black best but am going to go for the regular SS with link band because it is more versatile. I feel like the SS will look better with a leather strap, etc.
