Try the Focos app and you will have total control over the Portrait mode masking. It makes the X bokeh superior to the Pixel 2 because you are given choices on the type of bokeh. In fact, using the app even fixes the front facing camera issues with subject edge detection. I’ve shown this image before, but it’s a good example of what the X faux bokeh is capable of in conjunction with the app.

Just watched 2 videos on this app...

Ummm Apple needs to buy and integrate this app into iOS immediately.

Well they need to make a few more updates to the camera app but man this app is a game changer for iPhone mobile photography enthusiasts.

I was going to buy the moment telephoto lens to get some natural bokeh but this app might’ve saved me around $100.

The app's built-in tutorials do a pretty good job describing how to control the level of blur in your photos. All I do is play around with the foreground and background bokeh sliders to get that edge detection just right.

Yeah that edge detection, when not implemented correctly, is a dead giveaway and really kind of kills the effect imo.

Kind of surprised the focos app isn’t talked about more.

Thanks so much! That app is awesome!

i don't see any differences in photos taken by SE and X (had it for 3 days and returned it as it was way too big and uncomfortable with useless face id) making my pocket heavy and must be used with two hands making you a slave so I wen thankfully back to SE and I will never ever buy any phone larger than that (in fact slightly smaller would be ok too with same screen size). If you want good photos unfortunately you have to take them with a real camera sad but true; sure some off those closeup pics come out ok but anything further than few meters is useless.
[doublepost=1515296225][/doublepost]to add that bokeh effect is deceving as it must be taken very close with surrounding back objects undistinguishable which is useless as you cannot tell where the picture was taken; unintentional booked hmm maybe is ok but back scenes should be clear as the subject taken very closeup. Otherwise it looks like a pasted up picture on some grainy blurry background. just look at it.

I know this is a pic thread but here's is quick video I captured this past Sunday at the Jags vs Bill's Playoff game, edited and uploaded from my iphone X. Unfortunately, the music didn't last the whole video. Just threw it together quickly.
