I bought the MINI Cooper S to replace my beloved restored-ish Karmann Ghia for that same reason: a commute over teh Golden Gate bridge, in the rain, at night, with not much in the way of safety features... I felt rather exposed.

Mine. 2000 GT

I'm caught in a tough situation because I have a car now, but I don't trust it driving back and forth to college, and on highways. But it's my baby, and I don't want to sell it. So I'm going to try not to. Yes that's me in a cape. I was on my way to a halloween party and I was dressed as Darth Maul. I thought it was kind of fun pulling up next to people dressed like that.

We still have a '66 coupe in pieces in our building. My parents got it as my first car, but it never got finished. I want to suck it up and get it done this summer then sell the 2000 and get a 4x4 Ram with a 12v cummins. I know I'm crazy with diesel prices, but I've been looking into making bio. The 2000 just isn't what I want. I was looking for an '85-86 but I don't know if I want a Mustang as a DD any more so I figure get the truck and finish the '66 for a cruiser. We'll see how the plan goes I guess.

We still have a '66 coupe in pieces in our building. My parents got it as my first car, but it never got finished. I want to suck it up and get it done this summer then sell the 2000 and get a 4x4 Ram with a 12v cummins. I know I'm crazy with diesel prices, but I've been looking into making bio. Things get pretty scary when you get up there, and it likes to move around a lot. Not to mention the thing is 0% aerodynamic. I've been up to 92 with it though, it's only a 6 cyl, so gas isn't bad. I'd like to garage it and fix it up when I come back home and increase it's value. I don't want to be one of those old men that always says, "I wish I hadn't sold it". Nice Gt. It still looks brand new.

A friend of mine bought a 2000 GT a month or so ago. It's in pretty damn near mint condition. Silver, leather, 5 Speed, Mach 460, (which doesn't sound as good as I expected.) only around 80k miles, I believe. I think he's gonna supercharge it, but I'm not sure. It's powerful enough as it is, if you ask me. 😎

That thing's a beast.

If you don't mind my asking: What does everyone do for work that enables them to drive such beautiful vehicles? I'd love to be able to get myself one of the sweet rides I've seen here...

It's called debt. I have tried to avoid it myself, aside from student loans. I am still paying on my truck (the blue Nissan back 1 page) but it was a small loan for that. However, those vehicles I posted are 12, 19, 20, and 21 years old. No wonder I can't keep them running!

Thanks, it's got some chips and scratches if you get up close though and I'm constantly having problems with the brakes.

No power steering might be why it feels like it's all over the place. It's really hard to turn if your not moving, but when your going down the road it'll go easy. I said '67 from the hood and didn't pay any attention to the side scoop molding, '68 indeed.😉

I'd like to put a stroker and 5 speed in our '66. Maybe a 408. What we want isn't always what we get though so we'll see.😛

ive got a good 'ol corsa, good car for a 17 year old😛. its quite a good sized car. and i got it for free!!!(from parents, im not from some rough place up north and i didnt steal it🙄) - ive gone 112mph for about 10 seconds with 5 people in the car when i was in a rush and relised i was speeding way to much so i slowed down after i was going that speed, and its only a 1.2 litre. great german engineering

Thanks! Yeah it is a stock color, Citron Green. Special Order for the C Sport Coupes ran from 2002-2004. The color wasn't a big seller and dealers were afraid to order thinking they may not sell.
I fell in love with the color chip int eh brochure and ordered the car without ever seeing it in person. I ordered my car with every option except I kept the 6-Speed Manual Transmission. They made me put a $5k non-refundable deposit to order the car. My salesperson told me they were afraid they couldn't sell it if I backed out.
I have only seen two of the same color in person.

That's the best C230 I have seen and I don't even like that model. But I would gladly drive that car. How much did she cost you? I know you bought it new, but how much would that car used cost (if you know)(I find KBB inaccurate for hard to find cars).

But I drive a 1997 Acura TL 3.2L. I will take some pics of it later, needs a good cleaning.

I also have a 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible.

Cool that you kept the 6 Speed Manual, as well. I'd say you have a very rare car on your hands. I've only seen a couple Mercedes' with a manual transmission, so that combined with having such a rare color is awesome.

I had a 1983 Mercedes 300D a couple of years ago for a brief period. I bought it, then realized that the transmission was acting funny (shifting hard from 1st to 2nd) so I got scared and sold it, 'cause I was afraid I'd end up having to spend a lot of money on it, since it had a few other small issues, as well. Overall, though, it was in great shape for an '83. Just a testament to the build quality of those cars. The paint even still looked good. It was all original with only 127k on the clock. It also had all the original documentation and service records and even the window sticker. $33,000 in 1983! Even though I love my current car, I do kinda regret selling the Mercedes, especially since I found out after I sold it that the transmission issue was common and I believe I read that it was caused by some sort of vacuum leak. Oh well, maybe I'll be able to get another one someday.

Amen, manual steering is a bitch. I've gotten used to it though. Drum brakes are more fun. Oh and no A/C... in florida, woo hoo! Although winters always nice. Oh and you can also tell 68 from 67 because they have side reflectors on the 68's. They were required on all vehicles in 68, as were collapsable steering columns. I always think, "Man I hope i never get in an accident because it would hurt." Yeah the side panels are different too. I think the hub caps are too but I'm not sure.

The sticker price was a little over $33,000. Yes I did buy it new. Since then I added several European Options, such as front and rear parking sensors, interior motion sensor, electronic folding mirrors, upgraded the front brakes to AMG, etc. I have no idea what the car is worth. The Blue Book says around $17k, but its hard to say the extra options. They are all Mercedes Factory options, nothing is aftermarket.

I have no idea what production number it is. I was told that it was the only configuration of that model. I dont know how true that is. Either way it is a fun car and even after 5 years old it gets lots of looks and comments, good and bad.

Did your transmission shift rough from first to second, out of curiosity? Ya know, it honestly could have just been the diesel engine that made it seem that way or something. I really, really regret selling it, though. I'd like to find me a mint condition '85 model in that tan color with brown interior. I'm not sure on the official names of the colors. I did some research and couldn't come up with anything.

But yeah, I want another one. Someday....

why??? if you like it fair enough, but it looks stupid. when i see cars like that i just think what a stupid effing driver. dont care what car it is. if you are going to repaint something, change the whole car to black and get stock rs4 alloy wheels on it - my thought anyways
