Pictures coming from a snowy Winnipeg, Canada.
Upgraded from an iPhone x to iPhone 12 Pro, I can see a clear difference in the camera. Now waiting to click some pictures in dark.

I took a couple night pics set at 3 seconds. The house is my neighbor’s about an acre behind me. The moon didn’t turn out that great even after editing so I discarded those changes. I did edit the other constellation, Cassiopeia, to bring the stars out more. I don’t have a tripod.

iPhone 12 vs iPhone 6.

There was exceptionally low light in the room (pitch darkness aside for one very small bedside lamp)

Holy cannoli! The difference between those two images is unbelievable. Easily, the best side-by-side comparison I've seen between old & new phones.

And what an adorable cat! He (she?) looks like something straight out of a cartoon.

The one thing I wish they could fix even with software is that green dot capturing the sun. I mean they can do red eye.

That’s lens flare, sadly without a hood shielding the lens you’re going to always get it. Even on a dslr you’ll also get it with an open ended lens in sunlight or brightness. Some phone cases can also add to the effect by reflecting the light into the lens.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 1/1.2" sensor in wide. It is very nearly a 1 inch sensor (how they fit that in there, I am not sure). This should be the most significant increase in quality iPhone has ever had from a "crunchiness/over sharpened" factor. Of course we won't know for sure until it's released... the processing may hurt it. Then again, one will get ProRAW to be able to make processing choices yourself.

Otherwise the differences in iPhone 11 and 12 are minimal at best, unless you include Portrait mode and added might modes (and 10 bit video, which is a big deal).

It doesn't. It's a 1/1.7" sensor. Much smaller.

The other iPhone are 1/2.55" ones.

Some more example shots in daylight. One can get really close and get a lot of detail out of the 2x lens.

Obviously a lot of stabilization going on there but constant noticeable warping because of it is noticeable. I'm honestly surprised it isn't better by this point, GoPro has been doing their "Hypersmooth" 4k stabilization for 3 years now using very, very underpowered camera chips (nothing approaching an iPhone's A series processor) and they have stabilization that is staggeringly good, its like a gimbal in decent light and shows none of this warping. I would have thought Apple would have caught up to a tech like that by now...

The warping is horrible and I can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed yet. Makes videos look horrible when things are shifting all over the place and is extremely noticeable.

Not upgrading this year I guess, I’ll hold out till I see what the 12 Pro Max can do with its bigger sensor.
