of course it's a canned response -- but by management, not a random guy. yet it doesn't change the truth of the statement -- they *are* looking into it.
That's my point. The phrase "looking into it" is vague enough it can mean almost anything. From actively discussing partnering with Apple, to trying to find a way to make your own incompatible version that doesn't violate any patents covering the original.
maybe you're not familiar w/ Pioneer head units, but they pushed the envelope of iOS integration w/ the AppRadio series, complete w/ apps built for it. they have a closer relationship w/ apple than most.
I haven't tried any of Pioneer's iOS integration products, but I have
a Pioneer stereo. I love that I can play AAC files on it. I take playlists I've made in iTunes from different sources and burn the files to CD-R and don't have to worry about what format every file is in (generally, there are a few alac files in there

).
I also hook my Nano up to the aux port and play over it. I actually have an iPod interface cable attached and installed through my center console (the dock end comes up into the armrest compartment), but I don't use it. The stereo doesn't support the charging standards used in my Nano (a 4th gen). I just get the "CHARGE AO" error on the stereo display. I can still play and reverse/skip songs on it, but no display is a real deal-breaker on me using that cable. I can hear the difference in quality between it and the headphone -> aux method, but I've also noticed that playing back through the dock interface really sucks the battery life (making the non-working charge feature more apparent).
So I mostly just burn to CD-R. I like that better because the audio is high quality and it's more convenient for me. I don't have to fiddle with connecting and disconnecting a device to my car when I get in it, or worrying about theft or heat damage from leaving the device connected in the car. If the heat ruins a CD-R or someone steals my visior disc holder (lol), I can just burn new discs. I haven't lost anything.
I'm actually thinking of trading in my 4th gen for a 2nd gen, since the charge circuitry would work right and it still supports Apple Lossless, and I don't really use my Nano for anything but music anymore.
I wouldn't mind trading to a new unit that supports newer devices, but I want a nice long display for song info (support for Kanji in song tags would be nice, too) and controls that I can use by feel without looking at my dash like I have now.
