Those antenna bands though!

Just when Apple figured out they're ugly Google goes and copies last year's iPhone.

The time has come for Apple to replace Google as the default option for Search in iOS. Ballpark, this distribution accounts for 20-25% of Google's total US business, which if by far its most profitable GEO. It would be a devastating impact to Google financials and data collection scheme

But, still keep it as an option for those who really want it (same as they currently do for Bing)

I have been using DuckDuckGo for the past year. It is great. I recommend trying it if you have not. I could see a future where Apple buys it, rebrands as Apple Search.
I too have been using DuckDuckGo for the past 8 months or so, I don't miss Google search anymore, DuckDuckGo is pretty good. My Google footprint is far smaller than it was couple of years ago. No Gmail, Chrome or Search. I use a little bit maps on the desktop and hangouts because of folks who use Android. I don't want to be the product of FB or Google.

Does anyone know how I can buy my personal data back from Google?

HTC made this phone for Google, this is Nexus 2.0 with a new name and Google's history has been to lose focus, hopefully the product just doesn't wither away. Hangouts and Allo story is says a lot about Google.

I buy an iPhone because of iOS and due of it's attitude towards privacy.

I don't like to be downgraded into a Google or Microsoft extension by using an interactive commercial paper smartphone, where both companies scanning your e-mails, your behaviour online, you're interest with almost every mouse-click.

It's rather ironic that in that regard you pay hundreds of dollars (or in my case Euro's) so you can hand over your personal profile to a tech-company. These tech companies earn lot's of money by selling these personal profiles to business, so you pay them next to working for them as well....

I wouldn't be so certain that Apple cares about protecting your privacy. At this point the only reason they don't monetize more user information is probably because they don't have the technology or infrastructure to do so yet. This is the company that gets over $1 billion a year from Google for Google to be the default search engine for Safari on your iPhone. A company interested in user privacy wouldn't accept such an arrangement.

I mean...it's not like those parts of the phone are hollow...
Of course not, but that still doesn't mean it looks good.

At least with the iPhone, there is a sense of balance between the earpiece and front camera up top and the home button on the bottom.

The Pixel's buttons are on screen and the fingerprint reader is on the back.
It looks awkward.

Good thing google has Apples' phones available to copy. Otherwise they wouldn't have ANY idea what to do. google innovation at its finest, apparently.

As much as I didn't like Microsoft's Windows phone (and, it was a huge failure), I do give them props for starting fresh rather than copying.

The Pixel is based on HTC's existing design language, which Apple used in the iPhone 6 (antennae design and all metal chassis).
As for Windows phones, I loved the Nokia Icon. Slick design and felt great in the hand.

Just like Foxconn and others make the iPhone for Apple.
Foxconn, an others, simply build the components. Apple does all the designing.

I don't think people on this forum understand the concept of "meets or exceeds". It means Google created a phone just as good as Apple, and in many categories (especially the camera), it is better. We have our reasons for sticking to the Apple ecosystem; having the best phone on the market is no longer one of them. Competition is good though, your move Apple.

I didn't say HTC manufactured it, HTC made the phone, as in designed the hardware for Google. I suppose you don't see the difference.

Google's capability and focus thus far as only been software, and that too fickle attempts at best. Thus they have to rely on outsourced hardware.

A user has a choice in which search engine to use, so I don't see how user is left without a choice to go with Google. If user chooses Google, that's the choice user makes to turn over the data to Google. I agree, Apple should not make Google search default and monetize on that.

Are you saying that Google had absolutely no say / input into the Pixel design?
If you mean aesthetics, yes, but there is far more to a phone than aesthetics.

Different weight categories. iPhone is designed top to bottom by Apple including custom CPU/GPU and many others, Pixel uses of the shelf snapdragon. I believe that Google had a hand in this, but probably 2/3 of the expertise came from HTC.

Of course not. Google most definitely had input.
I'd bet good money that HTC's designers presented several designs based on Google's requirements and Google simply picked the one they liked best.
Google isn't exactly known for creating good looking hardware.

You're giving way to much credit to Apple - think about all the off-the-shelf modems and processors that Apple uses in their products.
If they wanted to use cutom modems i believe they would have to create either a new network technology or find a way not to infringe the patents. So in that respect everyone is stuck with this. Either way it would add a lot of work with little to no benefit, having a custom cpu on the other hand has plenty benefits as we can see.

Will it unlock a Chromebook via watch? In 3 weeks they'll be a better Android released and another 3 weeks after that.
