Unfortunately, the way Apple has been operating recently this will be so dumbed down that it will be useless except for some basic kindergarten functionality. Hope I'm wrong!

I don't see how a file manager will be beneficial for iPhone users.

I can see that, most users just tweet and email, but gee, some of us use files to transmit information and do things that use more than 132 characters.

Fans rejoice over something Apple should have included in iOS almost a decade ago.............the irony behind it all.

I'm reserving my disappointment or excitement until I hear what/if this "Files" thing is all about. If it is simply Apple's version of Documents by Readdle, then *yawn*... if it is simply a rebranding of iCloud Drive then *yawn*, but if it is a universally accessible file manager that provides a way to "break out" of sandboxed files, then that is indeed noteworthy.

So a file manager, which Apple and it's fans said for years that exactly nobody needs, is now the feature that will "lure" Android users over? It's not going to be that easy, lol. I know that nobody is saying this is the "fix" but...we shall see...

I mean, it's nice to have but nope. Need a bit more. (relax, I use iOS and Android)...

It's called setting different priorities.

iOS was also criticized for not shipping with 3G, MMS or copy & paste in 1.0. It didn't matter, because it was way ahead on other fronts.

I believe it's called selling yourself short because you could have already had this feature in a non-iOS device. ;)

this looks amazing! I just hope that it isn't a rebranded iCloud Drive app...

I will be surprised if they provide real file management. Given Apple's recent track record, I expect it to be what you are hoping it isn't. We'll find out soon!

I'm interested to see how deep file access will be. I doubt you'd even be able to view iMessage data files or anything like that, especially since that would make the Files app look cluttered.

I know, I am the odd one out here, but for me, that is a step back. Moving back into the world of the 80s as opposed to having a vision for building a computing world of the future where the user does not have to juggle files between physical directories anymore. I have been dealing with computers for 30+ years now, and user interface concepts have changed completely in that time, but the file systems are as dumb as ever and still a burden on the user.

A sad day for computing. If Apple is not going to lead the way here, then who is?

I don't know, I think it's Apple realizing that people need such things for the iPad to truly become independent of the PC. It is still keeping things very simple (not sure juggling is really a good way to put it), but giving their customers one location to keep files that are easily shareable between apps. It's a win for everyone.

I quietly got excited, Apple is finally listening. I hope not to get disappointed tonight.

Oooohhh, aaaargghh !!
The postPC apocalypse is starting.
I'm shovering all over my body - clamping every Mac I own in my arms...

Interesting... I wonder if it will be somewhat like the Finder on macOS or just a more advanced version of iCloud Drive. I really don't want to use 'Local Storage' on my 16 GB iPad Air 2 but I would love the option to download select files from iCloud Drive when on the go.
