An iOS file manager awesome!

What would totally make me flip, is there was also a sandboxed iOS terminal. Might actually stop having to carry around both my iPad and MacBook!

would be interesting..
I would love to be able to use my iPad Pro more, especially since my battery of my MBPro late 2013 is dying.
But I cant replace the battery since this takes Apple 3-5 days, and its my work laptop.

But as lots of companies are still working with Office we also need macro's to work on iPad in Excel

I'm having a hard time imagining how this will add more functionality than the current iCloud Drive app?

The one thing that it could be is some sort of "storage media" option... So you can plug you iPhone/ iPad into a device and it can read and write to the Files App and the Files App handles storage media that has been plugged in, and from there you share or can file pick these files from the File App...

Perhaps this is a way  are implementing a external storage kind of shebang while maintaining some sort of sandboxing?

Edit: TYPO

Good news, no doubt. Of course as some people have mentioned, there have been apps for managing files on iOS for years (and they have made a huge difference to what these devices are capable of doing), but with similar and expanded features integrated into the OS by Apple, file management should be much better and easier to deal with. We hope!

Great! One of the reason I keep using a BBRY is that I want to do simple things like taking a couple of attachments from more than one email and emailing them together to another person. And I don't particular want this to mean uploading the files to the cloud and then bringing them back down. Though I've also been able to do this with Outlook Mail App for a bit. But it will be more consistent to think of the files as on my phone and not just inside a specific App.

That would make sandboxing quite redundant if you ask me. Unless an app can explicitly choose to allow external aliasing and access to a specific subset of files, it probably won't be much different than completely breaking the sandbox.
Instead, if the sandboxes stayed the way they were, and the Files app was like a public folder of sorts, it would make more sense.

There has to be a way to make it viable without breaking the sandbox. Apps can store information in mobile/library/preferences for example (might be against app store rules) - theres no reason a universal folder couldn't exist for all apps to have read/write access to. If the user doesn't want all apps to have access to it, don't save it in this folder...

Guys, this is Apple we're talking about here. Anyone with two brain cells wanted file management built in from the very first iOS device and it's taken this long for something to possibly appear. More than likely it'll be crippled in some fundamental way.

About time apple implement a file system. Android has had one for years.

About time if true but welcome to pre-2009. Have a feeling it won't be supported on my iPads though.

MS Office for iOS already does this with OneDrive and Dropbox. Seamless file management. If this Files.app does ONLY that but integrated into the entire OS, it is a game changing feature that says good bye to multiple copies of files all over the place in each app sandbox. All that it really takes is proper use of the already available Document Picker and Document Provider functions...

Who is going to (try) download ios 11 today? I will try to upload the link in here, you guys should do the same! Always stressy, the hunt for the beta profile lol

It won't be to bad of a hunt if they open it up for public beta as well

Ahh, the moment of Harmony only lasted a few hours as the Filza for the unjailbroken got pulled...
And another firing within Apple ranks, I presume

If this is something related to file sharing between ios and all the other mobile and desktop platforms using the established standard, it could be a really great feature.
