What if microsoft decides to increase prices at some later date the way the cable companies do? The way amazon just did for amazon prime. Then all of a sudden to continue working with MY OWN content I have to pay whatever microsft asks for. I'm not saying the subscription model is all bad but I'm really hesitant to buy into it even though being able to use office on my iPad would be wonderful.

That's exactly why I don't like the subscription model! I want to be sure I own my content, not Microsoft.

Also, people saying that $99 a year is a good deal because you've been paying Microsoft $300 every few years to get the latest version of Office, I'm still using Office 2000, and it still does everything I need it to do. IMO, we should always have the option of NOT upgrading and keep using older versions if the old versions fits our needs. The subscription model takes away that option. So, I'm staying far, far away from subscription models, for as long as possible!

I think the single user subscription is like $79 instead of $99. So still a lot of money if you just want office on your ipad (because you were smart and got a full license for your computer that will last forever). Also the subscription model really puts you at the mercy of microsoft. I depend on office everyday. I would be screwed without it. If Microsoft were to do that, I'd go and buy a shrinkwrapped copy of Office. Obviously I wouldn't have all of the cross platform access that I currently do with the subscription model but I wouldn't be "dead in the water".

For all of you using and happy with Office on your iPad, how are you finding the tie-in with OneDrive? Is it working well for you?
It is working extremely well for me. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I'm able to access my OneDrive Office documents from my:
iPhone 4
Lumia 520
nook HD
Lenovo notebook
iMac
iPad 4
Surface 2
(yes, at various times and in various ways I need that type of cross-platform access)

What shrink wrapped copy? At the moment, maybe the documents created with the subscription version of Office is openable with older Office versions, but it's just a matter of time before a new "feature" makes newer document formats incompatible with older software.

I finally took the plunge £80 (in the UK) per year for 5 licences means me, my wife and two kids all have full access on all our devices for twenty quid a year each with one spare licence, not bad.

Word on the iPad displays Word documents a lot better than Pages and Excel is surprisingly good.

I use Word and Excel at work and can now view and do some editing on my iPad.

There is always the concern that they will increase the price in future, but doing that would probably alienate people and would discourage people from adopting what MS see as their future strategy. Lots of people paying a little is better than no one paying a lot.

At the moment I'm very happy with it.

YMMV

I have the Home Subscription.

I have Office Professional on my MacBook Pro under OSX, a 2nd install under Windows 8.1 in bootcamp. Another install on my mother's laptop, and one on my brothers Mac.

That's 4 installs costing me about $20/yr each. On top of that We all use the 20GB of OneDrive (I REALLY hate iCloud), some Skype time (I personally don't use that but my mother does with her sister), and now i get iPad apps.

I don't have an iPad, but I believe Android apps are coming shortly as well.

All of that for $99 a year is not a bad deal at all. The more things they add to Office the better of a deal it becomes.

At $399 per copy that would really be over $1,000 in costs.

Even if it is just one year that's a great deal, if they're legit.

It's a recent registration by a Chinese company. I wouldn't make any assumptions about legitimacy, but ...

I stopped using MS Word on all my computers so it just sits there. I prefer Open Office. I still use Excel. On my iPad Air, I have Pages, but have little need to use it.

I'm using OneDrive and iCloud. And Dropbox. All good, all pretty much the same thing to me.

I will use the free versions to view the files. I have no plans on purchasing any subscription from Microsoft.

I had no plans on purchasing any subscription from MicroSoft either.

But I did because it was good value and gave me what I wanted.

That was my case as well, I scoffed at the idea of being tied to an annual subscription when there already was other alternatives such as iWork. Then I started to play with it, I saw the much superior it was compared to iWork. Plus I got 25GB of OneDrive storage (in addition to the free 20gb), the ability to load office on 5 devices and 5 computers. With a new version of office coming due shortly, i'd say for my situation I'm getting value out of the 100 bucks.

LOL that describes me as well.

BTW, I've found that AnyFont for the iPad helps preserve the look of documents by being able to install fonts on the iPad.

I picked up my subscription on Amazon for $65. A quite reasonable price to pay to have the Office suite available on every device in our home. (obviously, the fewer devices, the less the value)

Any change in your plans now? Maybe some are considering the personal plan?

So far, no. I still seem to able to get by with the apple versions of these apps. I probably don't use my iPad in a productive way enough to have to bother with office. I mean, I do some productive stuff but nothing business like or any of that. Just a basic spreadsheet and word processor are fine with me.

I´m using Office on my iPad now and then to do some light editing of documents, I split my Office 365 plan with my parents, so we split the yearly fee 50/50 between us, since you can have up to 5 individual users on a license.

I think that Office for iPad works great, from what I´ve used it until now!

As a student I will get it for free from uni but I wouldn't pay a subscription for it. I don't understand why they don't differentiate themselves from apple e.g. allowing integration directly with dropbox rather than just their cloud service. That would be a great change, something that annoys me a lot about Pages

I agree, that I wish they had dropbox integration but by the same token, they're wanting to promote their cloud service and OneDrive is good, I'm using it in place of dropbox for most of my needs at this point

In Pages, it's just not a direct drop into a DropBox folder (which it shouldn't be), you can easily do the Save-As and put it into a DropBox folder. And if your question to me is "Why shouldn't it be?", because I use BOX rather than DropBox which just shows that people have different choices for online storage so it only makes sense for Apple to choose their cloud storage by default.
I don't know how MS does it for Office but I'm sure you can easily get your MS files into DropBox.

Honestly, some people on this forum make things more complicated for themselves and expect everything to work only their way as if no one else is using the software but them. :p
