Spoke with a GameStop employee. He basically said in summary, if you don't have a 4K TV, why would you purchase the PS4 Pro? In short, he said there would be no direct benefit to the gamer without 4K. I have a one year old PS4 with a new OLED TV, but it's not 4K.

Also, it sounds according to my demographic in my area, the Scorpio is the system to wait for. The Pro preorders are slow, which is to be expected with the PS4 being still newer. I think it will need to take time for Gamers to make the switch if they so choose.

Also, I was reading, some developers may be charging for certain content for the Pro to be accessible to them for a fee. Sounds kind of ludicrous to me. It was a rumor at this point.

The employee probably didn't watch Sony's presentation (I did).

They demoed the PS4 Pro with games that were compatible in 1080p and there was a difference - better framerates and nicer textures, better anti-aliasing, longer draw distances, etc...

Since the developers of NMS are not budging on the price of the PC version, I'm thinking of getting a PS4 again to play it and the exclusive (now I'd be playing 6 games).

But, really, the PS4 is only 2 months away - so why would anyone buy a Slim for $300?

They should've priced it at $249 - especially since it is only 500Gig and it doesn't have a UHD BR drive (compared to the XBox One S).

I played Doom on the PS4 and it was the smoothest game I have played yet at full and true 1080 P. With my PS4 only being a year old, I'm thinking I might hold off for the Scopio and add a little diversity in my line up in the spring. Other gaming threads have said the PS4 Slim is a waste of money. I'm interested to see what the Pro will do.

Some folks at GameFaqs are saying what's the point of getting the Slim when the Pro is two months away? Slim seems like just a cash grab, right?

Slim
+ Cheaper by $100 (can be use for games)
+ Runs cooler
+ Quieter
+ Less power draw
+ Bundled with Uncharted 4

Don't have a 4K TV or even 1080p. Playing it on a "16 720p TV! Don't care to wait on Pro.

I missed an entire generation with the 7th. I only had a launch day Wii, and I don't consider that 7th gen specs. Ordered a Japanese PS3 in December 2007 but it was never delivered to me so ended up getting a $500 Nokia N82 unlocked. So I missed out on games like the entire Uncharted series, The Last of Us, Heavy Rain, and so on. Have a brother who owned a Xbox 360 but I rarely played it except for some NBA 2K games.

Since I am getting a Note7 and a $80 Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB, PS4 slim now is vital because I plan to use it to replace my LG Blu-ray to watch movies on it reading that Seagate. The Seagate is kinda important. Maybe moreso than the Note7 and PS4. I can't wait two more months for a Pro. Since Note7 is breaking into my budget, instead of $200-$300 worth of PSN cards, I might go $60 and just get the Nathan Drake Collection ($40) and The Last of Us Remastered ($20).

PS4 slim + Uncharted 4 is a solid purchase for a first-time PS4 buyer like me. Yes, I know most of the best games on it I want to play are from the PS3 era. But remember I missed on that gen. Only time I ever played PS3 was at my cousin and it was briefly for Tekken 6. I lived there for 9 months and rarely had the urge to play it. I still want to play God of War III and Heavy Rain. Will also get Metal Gear Solid V eventually as well. The moment I saw the Slim leaked, I knew I wasn't going to get Neo anymore.

I admit the matte PS4 Slim & Pro are not as stylish as the Xbox One S and original PS4. I told myself, WHO CARES? I don't buy consoles to sit pretty when I barely will stare at it. Og PS4 is a smudge magnet anyway and already plan to deal with it with a Note7 just like people going jet black iPhone 7. Wipe it off or shrug it off, right? The power draw on the PS4 slim is important. I have delicate electricity where blackouts occur often.

Slims models tends to be more stable than the phats a few years into the generation. This is why I wait now and let early adopters be the beta testers while they pay top dollar to get crappy first gen games. Similar to ones who bought the Note7 and want iPhone 7 on launch. I need to wait to see if they can iron out the bugs.

PS1 - Needed to be flipped upside down
PS2 - Disc read error, loud fan
PS3 - Eventually just died too after a few years

PSP - Own a 1001, dead pixels, faulty d-pad
Vita - Black blotches, hated the weight

Slims = stable, cheaper, library is maturing

Og PS4 seems stable, but anything running cooler and quieter should last longer with me. I plan to go mostly digital on mine. I don't like moving parts or clutter of game boxes. HDD is moving but replaceable. Don't want to wear out the disc reader. I'm not much of a hardcore gamer these days, so top specs don't matter. Slim is the perfect PS4 model for my needs. After buying another console after nearly ten years since the Nov 19 launch day Wii.

I have a 4k tv, but I think I sit too far from it to really benefit from a resolution higher than 1080p. My tv does not support HDR. The only benefit I would be interested in is improved draw distance and less pop-in in games like Minecraft, GTA5, NMS and such. But there is way too little information available right now. Also the list of "enhanced for Pro" games is pretty short right now.

Also, have we seen a size comparison between the Pro and the launch model? The Pro is bigger, right?

The Pro is near as big as the first Xbox One apparently. I don't mind it being bigger if it means better cooling.

Here's the deal...

Going back to Colecovision back in the day, Coleco had the license for Donkey Kong. The Colecovision had the best version closest to the arcade (of course). The Atari 2600 version they did the best they could considering the platform (the gameplay wasn't really that bad). The Intellivision, really the direct competitor to the Colecovision, was incredibly horrible (talking worst than the Atari 2600). Rumor is that Coleco purposely did that to entice Intellivision owners to upgrade to the Colecovision (Atari owners didn't need convincing).

Who's to say that Sony will make patches to really early games so that the difference is worth getting a PS4 Pro?

Who's to say that Sony will make new games on the PS4 sub-standard and really nice on the PS4 PRO version to entice people to upgrade?

I can do that on the PC games - turn down the graphics to make it look so-so (especially if your GPU can't handle it), then turn it up to 4K Ultra (and it scales down to 1080p on my TV as a PC Monitor) that looks absolutely gorgeous (Dreadnaught does this - there's HUGE differences between low res/low quality, 1080p/High and 4K/Ultra - I can tell on my 32" 1080p TV from less than 1ft away - it is astonishing).

Just something to think about...

I guess the "Special Edition" PS4's have begun:

Final Fantasy XV PS4 1TB Version (not PRO) - $449:

Yep, $50 more than a pro - okay, you get a game, 1TB HD, and a "image slapped onto the top"...

Did anyone get a PS4 Slim? Curious about the fan noise improvement.

No, but i'm looking forward to my PS4 pro in a months time. I'm just wondering how on earth I'm going to transfer my saved games as my existing 500gb PS4 was upgraded to the 2tb HDD, and the PS4 pro only comes with 1tb.

I wonder if I can just exchange HDD's ?

I got the slim but have no basis on original ps4 regarding fan noise. I had an original 360 and that thing was loud. I've ready comments on ps4 and 'jet engines' which reminds me of my 360. This slim is nowhere near that. Yes, the fan comes on and off. Yes, you can hear it if you focus on it. But tv to couch with the audio playing I have no complaints and don't feel it's excessive.

You can't swap drives and keep data. You can put your saves in the cloud if you have ps+ or you can copy them to a usb drive locally and them move them to the new pro. Actual games will need to be re-installed as you originally installed them (download or disc).

I know I can back them up or transfer via ethernet. It seems though I will have to back up to an external HDD, then have to buy a new HDD for the PS4 pro (as I am over the 1tb size it comes with) - reformat and reinstall PS4 software, then copy everything back. Essentially a load of hassle. :(

MRU: Do you want to keep the old PS4 with all data on it?

If yes: Buy a new 2TB hard drive for the PRO, and do a full transfer via Ethernet cable.

If no: Do a full backup to an external hd, swap hard drives between the two systems, and do a full restore from external hd to the PRO.

Yeah the first option would be easiest but I'll have to do the second as when I trade up I will have to give in my PS4 to Gamestop there and then.

Do you have to turn in the old system when you get the new one? Or can you take the new one home, swap hard drives between them, and then take the old one to GS?

You have to turn in when picking up the new .. unfortunately.

Do you still have the old 500 GB hd? Put that in the old system before you turn it in (after you do the backup!).

Would suck to turn in your old PS4 with a 2 GB hd, only to then buy a new 2 GB hd. ;)

Yeah that would make the trade up process redundant if I had to do that. (Buy another 2tb hdd).

Looking forward to the PS4 Pro.

Bethesda has said a few of their games (which I play a lot) will be updated including Skyrim remastered, to native 4K...

I'm curious to see how that plays out. A lot of Bethesda titles aren't exactly graphically stunning but "native 4K" is quite the claim.

Regardless I'll be happy with any improvements they offer for my favorite games. I'm actually holding off on Nuka World DLC so I can play it on the Pro.

I got the PS4 Slim during the Cyber Monday Sale at Target - they not only had it for $250, you got 15% off any purchase (not including gift and money cards).

I was going to get the PS4 Pro (not on sale but still had the 15% off), but with all the holiday spending and I only play a few exclusive on PS4, I decided to get the PS4 Slim.

Here's my impressions:

PROS:
Very small and slim. Is actually about the size of the Wii U (the Wii U being longer/shorter on a side and the PS4 Slim being more square).
Very quiet.
Had Far Cry 4 physical disc as a pack-in which I was able to trade in at Gamestop for credit.
Love the updated PS4 controller (is it slightly different with the grip? seems more confortable)

CONS:
The unite gets *extremely hot* - thought it wasn't a big deal (people online were saying), but it is not out the back at the fan exhaust, it is on the bottom of unit!
