Could anyone enlighten me on how much free space there is on a fresh iphone 6 16GB?

It is bloatware because it is making the OS bigger than it needs to be.

They are not crucial to the functionality of ios, unlike the App store app or settings, messages etc

I've always considered bloatware stuff like "Amazon Music", "TripAdvisor" "NFL Mobile" and all the Galaxy S apps that were installed on my S4 that weren't part of Android, but what Samsung and Verizon decided to install on my phone and not let me uninstall.

They weren't part of the core OS. They had no reason to be on my phone.

Tips, Health, etc. ARE part of the Core OS, just like Dialer and Contacts are on Android. Pure stock iOS includes them.

Hands Motorola flip phone brick from 1997. Here you go. Bloat free, just the essentials.

Hope you like space grey. Only color it came in.

Health maybe is the Core app depends how you define it. For users like me without the shinny new iPhone 6 and have no plan to buy fitness band, it is not. How does remove health app affect my usage of phone anyway? So does tips. All Apple need to do is animated tutorial during the setup process. Like Android or BlackBerry. I failed to see how removal of tips app will impact usage of phone.

Sames goes to iBook, Podcast. It is not like remove phone app, so I cannot make phone call. I just failed to see how iBook, Podcast, health, tips, weather etc is core app. I really failed to see. Can you give me an insights that how removal these app will make my phone experience worse?

If you want bloatware free phones, you should look at Motorola phones or One Plus or Nexus line up. I never liked Samsung phone and will never like Samsung phone. Just too much bloatware

Ok, since we could not determine which app is needed for each user, why don't Apple just give us the ability to delete what we personally don't want? Like when we press and hold on the icons, all the preinstalled apps have the x on their corners for us to delete, except for 2 most important one Settings and App Store.

With iExplorer for Mac you can delete every app directly from the root directory.

No Jailbreak needed, no setup. Just plugin iPhone and open the app.

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31722/iexplorer

Also does a lot more.

I deleted all the Apple apps that I don't need.

It only takes a second with iExplorer.

The iPhone basically runs a very simple version of OS X and iExplorer gives you access to the Applications folder.

Note: The icons stay on the home screen until you restart your iPhone of course.

what ones did you delete and still be stable?

Why would they do that when they can force them on us and in turn, force us to upgrade to the next storage capacity for more money? Why do you think they did away with the 32gb option? They know 16 is not enough anymore. The whole thing has been a scam from the start and their biggest offense of all. 100 dollars more for doubling the flash storage capacity.. Wow what a deal thanks apple!

Biggest rip off ever.

In before some die hard apple fan boy tries to defend this nonsense. Of course they couldnt do any wrong ###

Why must we have apps like 'stocks', 'newstand' and now 'podcasts' and 'tips' and 'health' forced on us?

It's getting a bit bloated!

I am never likely to use any of these yet we can't delete them.

You have an App store for downloading these types of things!

Is it time we got a petition going!?!

If you think that is bloatware, you should never try any Android device from Verizon.

I actually like the stocks app. But I agree that we should be able to remove it.

I too have a folder labeled 'Junk' and this contains Tips, Newsstand, Game Center, Stocks, Passbook, Books, Health and Podcasts.

I cannot see why I have to keep this stuff if I have no use for it. Comments like "it's part of the operating system" are not helpful.

Great if you ned these apps but for those of us who don't want or need them, why can we not delete them ? The App store is full of stuff - these could easily be added there for those who want to use them.

Yes, this stuff is Bloatware, as is everything on anyone's device that they don't want to be there.

By the way, there are many apps I do use so I'm not suggesting a return to the dark days of phone\text only, only the wish to have control of the apps on my iPhone.

An app that won't you won't use isn't exactly bloatware. On Android I NEVER used Calendar, Gmail, or Messaging (which I could disable on my Moto X/S4 wth GPe ROM but not actually remove without rooting). Do those qualify as bloat?

While it is true that apps you not use might not be bloatware. We are not arguing that. However, please share a reason that users cannon remove these app. Not just Apple, I wish every OEM allow users remove those apps

Why is any of thst wrong when it's simoly business and different options exist for the users. 16 GB is still enough for many users. And the built in apps will hardly free up much noticeable space if they were allowed to be removed.

Funny because I have a folder on my new iPhone 6 labeled "Apple Stuff" that contains 20 worthless, stock apps.

Even with bloat on Android there were ways to disable these apps without rooting the device. No such luck with Apple.

My biggest beef is the "tips" app. The inability to delete that is a BIT of a slap in the face for iPhone super nerds like me. The app is worthless.

I do agree with this. One of the things I likeabout apple was the little amount of bloat. Not so much anymore.

You're right. Most of the apps I don't want and don't plan on using EVER. The Tips app is just being a real peice of ----! Can we please just remove that at least?

Agreed. Hopefully by iOS9 Apple move to follow Google's approach with this and decouple these apps from the OS. Not only could we then pick and choose what we want but this would have the additional upshot of allowing them to update them asynchronously from iOS. Given iOS8's strides towards a more open and 3rd party extension friendly platform, this remains one of the few areas in which I see them lagging behind Android at this point.

Apple already can do that. That was part of the iOS7 redesign. I would like to be able to delete newsstand, passbook, tips, and reminders.

I agree with, more choice is always better than less choice, but Apple has decided what it's core apps are and that is that. I really don't think IOS is bloated as I use most of their core apps. I don't define bloat ware as apps you don't use, but to each their own.

"bloat"? what is this a joke? a troll? both? or something else? those apps are not bloat, dont like them then remove them from the notification bar, turn off their location services, dont tap on them.

done. was that hard..?

u obviously havent seen android from even 5 miles away, bloat..heh..just..just look at android carrier bloatware, its too much to describe here. they even go as far as to change the interface of a lot of parts of the os

I use both android and iOS.

I have an xperia z1 mounted in my car for multimedia and sat nav. It's not bloated. You can remove any app you like using 'system app remover'. We also don't have carrier branding in the UK anymore or if we do then it is very minimal. I haven't seen a carrier branded phone since around 2006.

Mainly because we complained about it. Perhaps if you had taken the initiative to do the same you wouldn't have it either.

Similarly I am complaining because I would like choice on what is installed on my iOS device. This is not a bad thing so stop being an apple zombie!

You can just hide them in a folder, they don't hurt anything.

Actually once Health is up and running (next month?) it'll be useful to everyone - mostly to people with 5S/6/6+ but also to you. You can use an app like Argus to track your steps with the iPhone 5's accelerometer, and other apps to track things like heart rate, calorie intake (MyFitnessPal and the like), etc., and Health will aggregate them all.

Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather not have my phone monitoring me. Unfortunately, there is no way to disable this intrusion. the Health app started tracking my steps the minute it was unboxed. Not good. Don't like. Make it go away.

Why is it when Apple comes up with something that is potentially useful (like Health app), they FORCE you to have it? Podcasts? Never listened to one. iBooks? I have my library on Kindle thank you. Tips? Really?

Get the crap off my phone. I don't want it there. It takes up space.

But you CANT turn off some of these. Where do you kill off the Health app from monitoring your movements? It isn't under Location Services. It isn't under Privacy. Where is it? How do I make this app do nothing?
