If what you say is absolutely TRUE, that you spilled a DROP of water on your laptop, depending on the location of that drop of water, you may not have triggered the water sensors in the laptop, book an appointment at the Genius bar and tell them that the laptop stopped working one day. It's worth a try before you go through all the trouble of getting a refund for AC and selling a dead laptop for a fraction of what you paid for just a month ago.

Is there an App that allows you to check if the water sensors have been activated?

I believe the "sensors" are simply stickers that change colour to show the presence of liquid so there would be no way to check other than opening up the machine.
Somebody will, no doubt, correct me if I`m wrong.

I've had liquid-caused issues to my macbook pro before but luckily apple took care of it. That's one of the perks of the portables is that you can mail it in and they're really leniant on what they fix. However, when you take it to the store, I have found they are more by the book

Yours is a classic case as to why one should only buy AppleCare a year after getting any Apple product - just prior to the original warranty expiration.

Agreed, buy the extended warranty right before your one year manufacturer's warranty is up
