Well, after being very happy with the performance since the upgrade, today, I am having a battery draining issue.

I know Apple likes to make fun of the Task Manager, but perhaps if the phone had one, I could actually figure out why my battery doesn't even last 12 hours of standby.

Basically, since 4 PM yesterday when I took if off the charger with a full charge, the thing now says 3 hours of usage.

And I had it turned off from 11 PM to 7 AM. So that is about 11 hours of stand by and now it says 3 hours of usage.

But where is my usage?

I am not using the phone at all and it lasted a lot longer on the last charge before this one.

The only difference was I used a lap top USB charger this time.

Could that be the issue?

Do Lap Top charges not do as well as wall outlet charges?

My battery has seen a huge improvement in battery life. Last night was the first night I haven't had to charge my battery overnight.

This is very odd, I have also left the phone in standby for hours and then checked and the usage has also been for hours, when I had only used apps for well under 1 hour. This maybe a glitch in the time usage/standby calculation, it doesn't seem to be accurate. Unless some applications are running when its on standby without anyone knowledge.

I notice your phone is using Edge - this could be the reason for such a long batt time, have you been using 3G or able to get a connection in your area?

I can get 3G in my area but I don't always have it on as when I'm at work I've got a computer right in front of me and use that for the internet. My phone's used for mostly calls, texting, email and music. It's not that I've had 3G and Wi-fi off more since 2.1 - I've used it the same as I always have and am noticing a marked improvement in life.

I wonder how accurate the battery meter is though. Apple may have tweaked it so it looks more full but in reality it's just going to run out as quickly.

Well, I really did see an improvement.

I actually went to day 2 without needing a charge before getting in to the RED on the battery.

That, for me, was a first.

But then today, the battery drain issue. Another thing I noticed was that the back was getting a bit warm.

So held the sleep button and slid the slider to turn it off and let it rest a minute and then turned it back on.

Seems better now as I did that at 10:56 and it had 3hr 1 min of usage.

Checked it again at 11:51, and it had 3hr 6 min of usage.

I assume the 5 mins of usage was me checking it and the Push for email checking or polling or whatever.

Here is mine

I haven't used my phone only for a quick moment to check GPS and this is where my battery is. This is very sad on Apple's part.

Little if any difference with 2.0.x -> 2.1 (in fact it may be a bit worse)
Not really impressed with the 2.1 update: Safari still crashes, it broke my Contact Sync to my in car system, battery no better. I've even done a full restore to no avail :(

This is the Issue that keeps me from switching

I have a BB Curve. I hate the OS of the curve, its usability sucks, though it is great for emails and phone and texting... and has a great battery life. Yes I know why it has a great battery life, slow-ass network!

But I want to switch, I love the iphone interface, and tentatively love the email (I need to use it for a while before I fully embrace it, I send/rec 2-300 emails a day) but the sucky battery just is a deal-breaker for me.

Hmmmm....for some very strange reason my battery life seems to be worse. :(

Still love my iPhone and 2.1, but would love to know why my battery life has decreased under exact same usage usage scenario.

Mostly just watching videos and browsing with Edge and Wifi. I also played some 3D games too and used Maps quite a bit.

Nice i think im going to do a full restore again with the 2.1 firmware so i can match those greatly improved battery results Steve was talking about!!! (I haven't achieved such performance yet)

Its nice to know apple worked hard on this one and gave us what we all wanted!!! THANKS GUYS

PS. You sure are getting your monies worth out of ATT!

It's not a glitch in the usage calculation, there is actual usage going on. Numerous users have reported that the battery bleeds like crazy for no apparent reason. Happened on my first night after installing 2.1, I was going to check if battery life had improved, but instead when I checked it the following morning it was down to 50%, whereas normally I can leave it on standby overnight and it will still show a full charge in the morning.

It hasn't happened since (knock on wood) and now I'm seeing excellent battery life... here's what it looks like right now:

40% left
Usage 4 hours, 34 minutes
Standby 2 days, 3 hours
Call time 18 minutes (current period)

WiFi - ON
3G - ON
BT - ON
Fetch - ON (30 minute intervals, 2 POP accounts)
LS - OFF
Push - OFF
Screen brightness 25%

Usage - made one call, read some mail, played Solitaire and Zen Pinball for about an hour total, used it as an iTunes Remote, installed 3 app uppdates, wrote a ToDo list.

I figure it could go another 24 hours on standby... which leaves a total of 75 hrs standy + 4.5 hours of moderate usage. Not shabby considering all goodies except LS are enabled.

Nice Photoshop Skills.

Why thank you kind sir. I figured I make it so impossible that people HAD to think it was a joke. At least I didn't cheat and make it realistic and have people yelling at me ;-)

I'm glad you called my bluff... it was intended.

Well heck.

I kind of knew it was fake, but prayed that maybe you would get mad and say that was the diff without 3G.

LOL...

I'm sorry I got you excited. I don't get very long battery lasting results. I usually get 3-4 hours of usage. Mostly because I use the web on it.... Wifi is almost always turned on even when I'm not connected to a wifi network and Location Services are on.

Re: BATTERY screen shots! 2.1

There is an improvement with 2.1 update.
3G, Location Services, Fetch manually, Push, some Bluetooth and Wi-fi on.

Me too. My battery life isn't much better than before, bit my reception is. Getting drastically improved reception without taking a hit on the battery life is fine by me!

I've had my phone on without recharging since yesterday morning, it is now 8pm. i only turned it off to sleep between midnight and 8 am...

everything is on: 3g, location services, wifi, bluetooth...

usage was light, but still i am quite surprised!
