Glad to hear it's mostly stable. I don't agree with those that say this is some major rethink of the watch. Basically the biggest change is just repurposing the side button. I'm not sure why the Verge and others think this is some major redesign. All the changes are good but they seem more like minor tweaks than anything else.

I disagree. Many members and I have basically stopped using apps on the AW because they were taking too long to load, etc. The wOS 3 update addressed this problem.

Do you find yourself using the buttons now? I mostly never touch the bottom one

The loading of apps is a major rethink , and very welcome from a performance point of view

Watch OS 3 is fairly stable. And I don't think it's a major change from before either. I love the home screen with the little bubbles and it's still there. I prefer the home screen over the app switcher because you can See all your apps at once without scrolling left and right. And hitting the right bubble isn't a big deal for me.

I hated glances and I suspect anyone who disliked glances will also hate the app launcher. But if you'd rather see one app at a time and scroll right, now you can.

I like OS 3, however battery life is terrible. I take my watch off the charger at 7:30am and wear it all day and place it on the charger at 6am the next day and this has worked fine... with OS 3 I took my watch off the charger at 7:30 am and I got the 10% battery life warning at 7pm at night.

Lets hope this gets better.

Can second this. Used to getting 2 days and now it's down to 1. It should improve by release although battery is expected to be lost for the performance boost.

Battery has been fine for me even with 10 items in the dock with background loading. Started with 100% last night and I am at 35% now and will charge for bed tonight. Had a 45 minute workout this morning. Many have complained in the past after upgrading and had to re-pair the watch to fix faster draining but it could also be the dock apps not configured for version 3 yet.

I guess that's technically a major re-think but my guess is it was more about prioritizing battery life than anything else. I mean I don't believe anyone on the Watch team started out thinking apps taking forever to load is a good thing.

Again I'm not convinced that was some major rethink. I think it was mostly about battery life and maybe it just took this long for the software engineers to figure out how to make this work without being a major hit on battery life.

As far as the side button I mostly use it for Pay. Repurposing it is important but I still don't consider it a major re-think of the UI. But then again I'm not someone who thought the UI was fundamentally broken in the first place. And I still contend if there was no latency from day one people's opinions of the Watch would be a lot different.

Am I the only one who dislikes the fact that there is no Glance now? This is annoying to me because I used to be able to read top news on CNN, see the latest posts on Instagram, see Top Trending on Twitter, see the latest scores on OneFootball but now it's all gone.

The Dock isn't as useful, cos it displays the actuall app screen, which is not suitable for glancing information. For example, now OneFootball displays the 'EURO 2016 2 matches' instead of the latest scores.

What is more, I have my bank app installed on my watch, whenever I open it, it stays there on Desktop under 'Recent' showing how much money I have on my account without being able to remove it.

Plus, I'm in New Zealand and there's no emergency contact feature when you hold the side button. It will only display power off button and my medical ID. Can someone else, perhaps non-US residents, confirm that this is also the case for you?

And we can't force close app now, right?

Thank you :D

The apps open fast from the dock now that you can tap right into them and see what you want right away pretty much. Or at least that's how I see it.

The SOS feature is not available in beta 1.

I have to say that I am loving the new os. With that said, I had my first respring (reboot?) just now after using it a lot more than usual since I updated it on the day it was released. The fact that apps load darn near instantaneously is worth a respring a day even. I am sure in 2 weeks (I believe that was the normal release schedule with the last dev beta) it will be even better!

Hitting a bubble and waiting 30 seconds for an app like Swarm to load is a big deal.

With the new system it's supposed to be instant so it is a big deal.

You have to remember, current apps were all built with specific glances. Developers will update and optimize their apps to no longer need glances, so maybe OneFootball will go back to showing the info by default once they update for OS 3

Anyone else not able to use the Dock menu in the Apple Watch app? I just get a spinning wheel but the dock on the watch works fine.

+1 to this.

We need to remember how there are three basic pieces to the AW (or any modern computer, really) -- the hardware, the operating system*, and apps developed by third parties.

The development of those third-party apps is largely out of Apple's control. Apple gives developers the documentation and guidance on how features should be implemented, but it's still up to the developers to write their own code to make their own apps work properly.

Don't worry so much about how apps are misbehaving today with beta software released this week. If the app's developers have their act together, they'll be refactoring their code over the next few months, testing it on their own Apple Watches, and getting it ready for the public release of watchOS 3.0.

If they aren't already starting on this, all I can say is, they probably suck.

(*) For my purposes, stock apps written by Apple can be considered part of the OS, even though it's strictly not true; also, they've often hashed out features and permissions in stock apps before giving third parties the same access.

Yep, another good reason to stick with wOS 2 at this time. Until devs re-design their apps to make the app landing pages more like glances, you'll probably get more useful information from the current Glances than the all-new Dock.

My battery did the 10% remaining notice in the early evening. This never happened when on the regular release.
This is definitely going to be a daily issue, at least for Beta 1.

Consider this before installing it.

Personally for me, as long as I make it home before it dies, it's not a huge deal because I can just take it off and put it on the charger when I'm done for the night. However, there are obviously people who may not be near a charger until late at night, etc so those are the ones who should be a bit more wary.

I think it was mentioned that apps should be updated to have a glance-view for the dock which can then change into the full app when launched. I may have misunderstood though. I miss glances too :(

It has been great until today. Today it is failing left and right. Screen freezes and random reboots. I'm thinking it may be the new watch activity face so going to change it and see if it keeps up

I've been on the fence about the iPhone 7 as my 6+ is great and shows very little signs of slowing down. BUT, the ability to install dev betas of iOS on a phone in order to install watchOS betas is appealing. Maybe I get the 7 and keep the 6 for phone betas :)

(I can't have iOS betas on my primary phone as it's way to important to me and can't be the least bit flaky)
