Why you wearing your iPhone 4 around your neck like a medallion and carrying on conversations with people on it?

I know when the original iPhone came out that people did actually ask if that was an iPhone, but I have a hard time believing the average person could tell an iPhone from a 3G from a 3GS from a iPhone 4 and then be bothered to ask about it.

Your tale of woe just does not ring true.

And it doesn't matter anyways, if it works for you it works for you. Grow some balls.

If I were to get on here and lie, it would not be about this.

The other day, I was just standing there holding my iPhone 4 (not necessarily out in the open for everyone to see) and the register guy at Best Buy asks me if it's the new iPhone, and then 20 minutes later, I went through the same conversation with my dentist.

People do notice it. My case leaves an open space for the new volume buttons, so you can tell right there that it's the new one. People do notice it and do ask about it.

I've gotten the following a lot:

"Is that the new iPhone"

"Yes"

"How do you like it?"

Presumably because people have heard about Antennagate. Doesn't really bother me though.

I go through something similar, not with the iPhone but with the vehicle I drive. I happen to drive a model of dodge that got poor consumer ratings but mine has been fantastic, I love it and it suits me perfectly. People ask me if it's a lemon all the time. I always answer "I know it got poor CR ratings but mine's been trouble free, I've got nothing but good things to say about it"
People always respect an honest answer.

sorry - this thread and the topic are just dumb. Operator error. No one here can help the OP and if he has buyer's remorse for the reasons stated then he's a (fill in the blank)

Surprised this has gone on for 2 pages

I asked some of the same questions, before I got my iPhone 4. After getting my phone, I have not encountered any of the problems claimed by what seems to be a relatively small fraction of iPhone 4 owners. Perhaps these stories are more the result of iPhone haters, people with unrealistic expectations, and a news media that has substituted mindless sound bytes in place of investigative reporting. Now that I have my own iPhone 4 and have my own impressions, I don't care much about the claims of problems that I have not encountered.

Yeah, I know. I never said my buyer's remorse was logical. :)

I also look at it as an opportunity to let people know that the antenna thing is NOT that big of a deal. I know in my mind, after having several opportunities to try all the droid phones as well as the new Galaxy phones that I still chose the best phone out there. If I returned this one and got one of those, I would not be a happy camper just based on the screen quality alone.

That is the EXACT reason why I chose the iPhone. I looked at both the Droid X and the iPhone and the iPhone was so far and above the quality of the Droid X it was pitiful. I wasn't going to pay $3-400 for a POS phone like the Droid X. $200 MAYBE...but not $300. Those who were telling me that the Droid X was a better phone simply have never seen the greatness that is the iPhone and were full of it.

I have no buyers' remorse whatsoever and I was only eligible for the $399 pricing for mine- and my phone works fine! That's all I care about. They can talk nasty about it all day and I won't care. I finally got an iPhone 4 wheeeeee!!! :D :D :D :D

One of the things that attracted me to the iPhone is the huge user/developer community. If that community were to break down because of this stupid antenna stuff, I would be really disappointed

Trust me, there's no danger of that happening. I have personally seen more developers moving to iOS projects in the past few months than I've ever seen before, and I know quite a lot of them.

I'm just simply having severe buyer's remorse. I like the FaceTime stuff, I love all the apps, I love the build quality of the phone, etc. I already hate going anywhere without it after just two weeks. But the pessimist in me keeps whispering in my ear: "People are going to stop buying these, everyone is going to return them, nobody will support the iPhone 4 anymore and you will be the only one left who thinks it's a viable phone."

No offense dude, but you sound like a ****ing idiot right there.

iPhone isn't dying anytime soon. If people were going to return them, don't ya think they would've by now?

Thread starter, thanks I needed to laugh at somebody today. You should return the phone please so that people will stop asking you about and you can feel better in public to not be that guy with the ip4. Lol
When I'm asked I give 2 responses
Q: is that the new iPhone. A: yeah Q: do you like it A: it's amazing

Q: is that the new iPhone A: yeah Q: does it hold a signal drop calls.
A: oh yeah constantly this phone is a pos do not go buy one it never holds a signal ( as I stand there using it with no case on it) they give me a strange look and I repeat don't go buy one.

If people can't realize for themselves what an amazing device this is please stay away from apple don't buy the phone and don't even ask to see mine cause it kicks whatever "cool" phone you think you have, butt..better screen faster. Internet etc...I don't need to go on.
OP: return your phone you are making e rest of us look bad. You don't deserve an ip4.

Let me give you a template so that you can avoid these conversations in the future.

"Is that the new iPhone?"

"Get away from me moron."

*annoying person slinks back to their hole.

Not that hard, and you'll feel good every time you do it.

Another version:

"is that the iPhone four"

"Booooooyyyyeeeaahhhhh baby!!! Check out the screeennn!!!!"

"does it hav...."

"Woooooooooooo!! Man this is such a crispy device!!!"

"I heard it has reception issues.."

HUH!??!!!?!!? (pauses, looks confused) "...ohhh I think I know what you're talking about now... That was all a bunch of bull-shiv. The media hype? It's just a myth. Maybe you misunderstood the whole deal about it. It happens. Check out the new gyroscope! (shows shooting range app with g-scope movement) see it aims where ever you hold it in the air!"

"damn that's sick"

"the screen looks like a piece of paper bro"

I think I would be a lot more unhappy if I returned it---I don't really like any of the alternatives nearly as much, even the EVO or the Galaxy S. I prefer my phone to at least be able to get me through the day on a charge without me having to micro manage it.

I don't think I would be able to get myself to take this thing back. I love it.

Then keep it and stop complaining about what other people think of the phone.

You are even more worried about other people's opinion than the OP.

But: super "cool" reaction, bro.

LOL

my first reaction to this topic was to laugh and say "suck it up" but it's a perfectly valid point.

we all get so hyped on apple stuff, it's usually great and people are impressed when they see you have the latest apple gear. it's one of the spices that leads to tasty apple soup.

obviously this iphone situation casts a pall over the new iphone - anyone who thinks it doesn't is either oblivious or one of those guys that doesn't realize everyone is laughing at their cool new hummer.

being in canada i was hoping the situation would lead to it being easy to grab one on opening day - no such luck.

people asked me if i was concerned when they found out i was was planning on getting one - i explained that the problem was overstated and i wouldn't use a glass covered phone without a case anyway - i have a case on my 3g now, so it's a non-issue. (everyone was like - "oh there's no possible prob. if you use a case? big deal!)

that's fine and all, but it's not exactly the same juice as people immediately saying "cool, wish i could get one too!"

it's like when that bp exec said he wanted his life back to normal - everyone freaked on him cause he's rich, not covered in oil and is responsible for covering lots of stuff in oil. but of course he wants things to be better - a few days earlier he was rich, not covered in oil and people weren't blaming him for destroying the planet every minute of his day.

Well the iPhone 4 is still better than all of its predecessor.
Even with the technical "antenna" problem,
the overall signal strength is still better than the other older phones.
Enjoy your iPhone 4.

Dude... I gotta say you sound like you have some self-esteem issues or something else going on. People ask about my iPhone too but I don't feel bad - even though I *do* have the antenna phone. I simply say I like it and that a case improves my reception. I don't feel like a pariah or a leper or that people are laughing behind my back or something?!

But the pessimist in me keeps whispering in my ear: "People are going to stop buying these, everyone is going to return them, nobody will support the iPhone 4 anymore and you will be the only one left who thinks it's a viable phone."

This sounds ridiculous. Millions of people will return the phone they just bought and it will be obsolete in less than a year? If it WORKS it is a viable phone. And who cares if you are the only one with a certain phone? It seems to me you are very concerned about others opinions and their opinions of you. If you think they are judging you based on your phone you need to wake up.

I mean if these issues are keeping you up at night, by all means return it and get a Blackberry or HTC or Samsung. But your fears and thoughts are unfounded.

I'm pretty much in your camp on this issue. I've not had many people ask me about my iPhone since the original. That one got passed around more than my firstborn son at a family gathering. ;)

I finally gave up on the white ip4 and bought a black one on Friday. I've been out and about quite a bit this weekend. I'm pretty outgoing. The only ip4 convo I've had with a stranger was in the Best Buy the day I bought it. And that convo was about which case he should buy because he'd already cracked 3 of them in less than a month.

Then again, I don't wave mine around or whatever.

This is the dumbest thread I've ever had the misfortune of reading. The antenna thing is so last week.

Sad Keanu made me fall out of my chair. So funny.

Geez, if they ask if you are having problems, tell them the truth. You tell them "no". End of story.

For me, I tell them "yes, I do, but it depends on my location". End of story.
