Dude... I gotta say you sound like you have some self-esteem issues or something else going on. People ask about my iPhone too but I don't feel bad - even though I *do* have the antenna phone. I simply say I like it and that a case improves my reception. I don't feel like a pariah or a leper or that people are laughing behind my back or something?!

This sounds ridiculous. Millions of people will return the phone they just bought and it will be obsolete in less than a year? If it WORKS it is a viable phone. And who cares if you are the only one with a certain phone? It seems to me you are very concerned about others opinions and their opinions of you. If you think they are judging you based on your phone you need to wake up.

I mean if these issues are keeping you up at night, by all means return it and get a Blackberry or HTC or Samsung. But your fears and thoughts are unfounded.

You guys are mistaking some of the things I'm saying for self esteem issues. What I'm trying to say is that part of the allure to Apple products is that every time you buy one of their new products, people are usually more jealous of you than anything else. Now, I love my iPhone 4 to death, but I would much rather people were like "damn I wish I had one of those" rather than "hey, have you had any problems with the antenna?" I don't care if people aren't necessarily blown away by the phone, but I wish they wouldn't harp on the stuff they keep seeing in the press.

This is not only my first every true smart phone, but is also my first Apple product in probably about 15 years. I went in thinking I was buying the new "it" gadget, and now when you read the news, it's like people think Apple is on its way out all because of the iPhone 4.

Ah, whatever. I appreciate the tough love from all you guys, even the ones who were insulting and disrespectful. I know I'm being a whiny baby about this. I think once I get a fresh set of sales figures and return rates, I will feel a ton better. I expect Apple will comment on the 17 country launch sometime this week--maybe that will cure my worries.

Does it make and receive phone calls?

Who cares what others think. We all get this. When I go to the movies, I get it. When I go out to dinner, I get it.

It sounds like you don't like talking to people who ask questions, in which I would return the phone since more people will ask you questions. It's not going to stop because you want it to.

Ever think they are asking you those questions because they want to buy one themselves? That is what more than likely happens.

In any case, just say "No." Be on your way.

Apple's sales are doing just fine with the iPhone 4. They can't keep them in stock. Apple is doing just fine with returns, they can't keep them in stock. The white iPhone 4 hasn't been released yet, I know a lot of people who are waiting for that.

We aren't mistaking anything. Get some backbone. You shouldn't give a crap what anyone else says or thinks about something that you are enjoying.

And if you bought the iPhone just to be cool and envied then you made a mistake.

Sounds like you wanted to be a part of the in-crowd and then once you got here you realized it was just another phone. How sad for you. Sincerely.

Cure your worries? Perhaps a forum isn't the best place for you to discuss these issues. Perhaps it's time to seek professional help. I don't say that as a joke. It sounds like you are in an unhealthy place.

Well, here's the flaw I see in your "people will totally envy me" logic:

The iPhone was THE most exciting in 2007. Almost nobody had one, and everyone who liked cool gadgets was eager to fondle one.

The iPhone is on it's 4th revision. While this latest release is groundbreaking, it's not THAT new. Millions of people around the world own iPhones. Millions own some kind of smartphone.

You've taken the smartphone plunge. Enjoy your phone. You really did miss out on the overwhelming surge of iPhone interest by waiting 3 years.

Maybe if you snag a white unicorn, uh, iPhone 4, you'll be the envy of all who see it. Until lots of people get theirs. ;)

Me? I think you'd have done better to buy a 3GS last year. My husband (also in IT, but he's software architecture) isn't much into Macs (he's coming around) but after years of tinkering with each of my new iPhones (I have owned one of each model) he gave in this past winter. It was a proven phone with a decent jailbreak. He's content. :)

Return it, there really is no cure for what you are going through...u seemed to have purchased the phone for the wrong reasons...

Tell us about your relationship with your mother?

:D

If OP tells us he bought it to attract women (or men, I'm open) then all is forgiven.

I shall then recommend that OP get a really cool car. The Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf, maybe?

Both are new.

1. I'm in the IT field. I have worked with computers all my life and maintain servers for a living. My paycheck comes from me making backups. So yeah--I understand how to save things and back them up.

2. I do care a little bit about being treated like a pariah because I have an iPhone 4. My uncle, who doesn't even own a cell phone and doesn't want to, even asked me if I'm having problems with it.

I'm just simply having severe buyer's remorse. I like the FaceTime stuff, I love all the apps, I love the build quality of the phone, etc. I already hate going anywhere without it after just two weeks. But the pessimist in me keeps whispering in my ear: "People are going to stop buying these, everyone is going to return them, nobody will support the iPhone 4 anymore and you will be the only one left who thinks it's a viable phone."

I just think it sucks that right when I finally get a reason to buy back into Apple, this whole scandal happens. Then again, Xbox 360s were melting down left and right and people kept buying those I guess.

Grow some balls or return it.

Didn't Jobs rattle off some really good sounding numbers during the antenna press conference? I'm sure some really good sales figures were also mentioned during their recent quarterly financial disclosure thingy. If those numbers didn't make you feel better, I expect any new announcements aren't going to make you feel better, either. Really, see a doctor. You sound like you might have something physically wrong with you that's affecting your mood.

If you dont want the iphone because other people comment on the attenna, sell it to me. I promise I will not have buyers remorse...

Why would you care what other people think as long as you enjoy your phone..

Low self esteem maybe? I don't give a rats as* what anyone thinks, and since I've had the phone, not one person has said anything to me about it.. But then again, I'm not running around holding the phone up in the air as if it were some kind of trophy.

These posts make me laugh.:confused::)

Here's the solution. For some odd reason it simply requires the patience to keep returning the defectives ones till you come across one that functions properly.

I just picked up my fourth one three days ago. Apple has a real winner. It's just a matter of finding one.

The one I have now functions as it should. It's a great phone. Now I have experienced what others have been saying. Well worth the long & tedious ordeal.

For a long time, I have been an Apple hater. I grew up on Apple computers, but I got screwed by them a couple of times. (I had 2 different Macs randomly delete 2 different time sensitive projects I was working on.) However, with the iPad and iPhone 4 announcements, I had changed my tune and knew I would buy one or the other. After using both devices, I decided that the iPhone 4 was probably the coolest gadget I had ever seen in my life. I ordered one about 2 weeks after they launched, and had it in my hands 2 weeks after that. I have not been able to put my phone down since I got it. It's even more useful and entertaining than I ever imagined it would be. I'm in love with this phone, and it's definitely the best piece of electronics I have ever bought.

BUT..........then I see all the negative press about antennagate. (This is a problem I have NOT been able to recreate on my handset, even in dead spots that my old phone used to drop calls in like clockwork.) But when I see the bad press, my heart sinks. And every time someone sees me with it out in public, the conversation usually goes like this:

"Is that the new iPhone?"

"Yes"

"Are you having any antenna problems with it?"

I'm getting so sick of this. I really hope Apple releases a new set of sales numbers soon, so I can feel better about my purchase. I don't want to be treated like a leper because I have the iPhone 4. I know these things are still out of stock all over the world, and Apple can't keep up, and blah blah blah. But when the dust clears, I really hope the antenna story dies. I still haven't recreated it, and none of my friends that bought one have been able to either.

Anyone feel my pain? I need to be convinced not to return this thing--I still have two weeks left on my 30 day return period.

Do us all a favor and return the phone-

Are you actually having antenna problems with your phone? If not who cares what others say. Don't let others influence you so much.

Man. some of those replies were pretty harsh.

I hear you. I've even had a complete stranger accost me at a bar by saying "Is that the Blackberry Curve?" (NO DUMBASS CAN'T YOU SEE ME *TOUCHING* THE SCREEN) just so he could talk about how much better Blackberry is than the iPhone.

In any case. The best thing I've found is to redirect the conversation where you want it to go.

With my aluminum Macbook, I was sick of people asking if it was the new Macbook. So I put a piece of black gaffing tape over the apple symbol (got the idea from years ago when Green Day used to tape over the brand names on their instruments.) After that, people started asking why I covered up the Apple logo. My reply would be "I was tired of always having people ask me "is that the new macbook."" Most people would then pick up on the hint that I don't want to talk about my computer:)

With the new iPhone, i've just been redirecting the conversation to try and do the same thing.

"Have you had antenna problems?"
"Not really. The worst thing about the antenna is that there's so much hype about it that everybody is always asking me about it."
"Man, that stinks."
"Yeah, but the camera is pretty awesome."

It's pretty much unavoidable, so you just have to make your own fun with it. Good luck.

Yah. Right you are. I went through FOUR of the first gen, 2 of the 3G. My 3GS has a minor issue. Will prolly swap it out so I can sell it or hand it down.

My ip4 seems to be fine. It's always better to take it back if there's an issue.
