After reading this thread, I'm now more convinced than ever about the name.

Tomorrow at work I'm going to tell everyone that I love my The New iPad :p;):D

Technically, aren't the new ones designated by Apple as:

iPad3,1 (the WiFi version)
iPad3,2 (the AT&T version)
iPad3,3 (the Verizon version)

Hence, just call them all iPad3!

Cheers nothing.

It's the The New iPad so deal with it. Apple decides what to name their products and if they like the The New iPad then that's that.

I love my The New iPad. Rain on another parade, mate.

BJ

Where did you come up with that absolute nonsense?

As a moderator, I'm surprised you haven't come across Bolt's posts yet as he generally replies with tongue very firmly planted in cheek--read his signature and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure this one is no different.

iPad
iPad2
iPad Next Generation
iPad Deep Space Nine
iPad Voyager
iPad Enterprise
iPad The Wrath of Adobe
iPad The Search for Steve
iPad The Voyage to Cupertino
iPad The Undiscovered Paradigm
iPad The Generations
iPad Flash Nemesis

That should take care of the next 10 years. Time to beam on.

In some ways naming it 'iPad' is the more logical choice. Firstly iPad has reached a degree of market saturation, having iPad 1, 2 and 3 would confuse, and fragment the market; calling it iPad does less to alienate existing iPad owners. Furthermore many will get this as their first iPad - the hype doesn't need a number on it. :apple:

Mine says iPad on the back. my iPad 2 says the same.

I still use iPad 3 to describe the new one just to keep it simple and differentiate it from my other one.

I didn't realize that this would piss some people off. And 50 down votes? Really?

It will be a mess here when the next "The New iPad" is released and people are searching through the threads. Some geniuses here like bolthead would say check out the post date bla bla bla and other nonsense, but there has to be a way to differentiate the two models when it comes to discussion boards. It's not only about an electronic device naming as some dudes here are saying.

Good thing introduction slide didn't say "The New... iPad". Otherwise some people would go like:

"Hey bolthead, what you got there?"
"This is my The New *pauses for a few second* iPad"

You're splitting hairs. That's why you got so many down-votes.

I personally just call it "iPad" as that is how it is shown on my order summary from the Apple website. If someone asks me or if I need to specify the generation, I call it iPad 3rd Generation.

It's not the New iPad, it's the Third Generation iPad. The word new is just an adjective. Apple used similar marketing for the launch of the New iPod err I mean the Third Generation iPod.
