Despite all the evidence to the contrary, you're still holding on to false hopes? It's going to be an upgraded iPhone 4. Whatever they call it, it's not going to be a new form factor or screen size.

There is very little evidence supporting either side yet you say this so authoritatively as though are in possession of information that we have yet to acquire. Guessing your stuck in a contract and don't wanna pay full price. Thinking that there will be little improvement is just silly. In today's market apple can no longer get by on just its name. Apple is known for staying ahead of the game and in order to do well with all the new phones being released lately, they so have to step it up. I'm not sure why there are so many people acting as though they are sure of the new specs and claim that there will be only minor improvements. The only viable explanation is that people are stuck on contracts our just bought a new phone (iphone 4 possibly) and are afraid the iphone will be a substantial improvement and that they have made a bad purchase.

Poll results to prove a point

I posted a poll earlier today asking whether or not u would buy the next iPhone if all it turned out to be was a 4S (refreshed iPhone 4 in same form factor with A5, 8mp camera, etc..basically what everyone has been saying the 4S would be). And I did this to prove a point.

Lately I've been seeing more and more articles, blogs, and posts that are saying "anyone who thinks were getting a totally redesigned iPhone 5 is in for a big let down". Well, I beg to differ...And always have from the day I heard such nonsense.

My poll results say (and they may have changed by now) that if apple releases an slightly modified iPhone 4 or 4S with minor spec bumps, their sales will be in the toilet..By about 65%. That means out of million would be buyers of a totally redesigned iPhone 5 (with all the things one would expect) only 350,000 would still buy it.

No I know my poll with 119 votes isn't exactly 100% accurate. And there are a ton of other variables that are not figured in. I get all that. But one thing is for sure..If apple did happen to give us only a 4S device, a TON of would be customers would go elsewhere. That's pretty much a fact.

So my point is that Apple has a huge department of people, making million dollar salaries who are devoted to doing exactly the kind of studies that will predict who will buy what. And I am sure they know (a lot better then we do) what a mistake it would be to give us another iPhone 4 with a faster processor and 8mp camera.

So if anyone is worried that the next iPhone will be a refreshed iPhone 4, put your worries to rest, cause it will not happen! NO WAY...JUST NO WAY!

You may not want one until you see the huge lines for the 4S.

I know alot of people are still using a 3G or 3GS, which makes your opinion not as strong since you assume that everyone would have upgraded to the iPhone 4 due to the redesign. From where I work, for those that have iPhones, I'd say about 50% still are using the 3G or 3GS. I showed them my iPhone 4 and they barely said a thing about the retina display or know what facetime is... Nor were they impressed by it to make them go grab one right away.

This. Even though you realize that your poll is not 100% accurate, it's a lot closer to 0% accurate then 100%. The results are way more off then you think they are.

The general population will only understand that it is the latest and greatest Apple device. Unfortunately the general population in general only has a basic grasp on technology, something that is often forgotten by anyone with a better feel for technology or has grown up with it playing a big part of their lives.

The people who visit MacRumors are generally into Apple products or are seeking help and have at least some technical knowledge since they are looking to help themselves.

That doesn't make sense. What you quoted says consumers will be disappointed if there isn't a redesigned iPhone coming out. You're saying sales will be in the dumps if there isn't a redesigned iPhone coming out. That's saying the same thing.

Really? So if you see a long line of people trying to buy something you previously did not want, you'll change your mind and buy it?

I have a 3G and it sucks. If I wanted the iPhone 4, I would have got it already. A 'refreshed' iPhone 4 being passed off as the next iteration of the iPhone would just turn me off even more. There ARE other options than an iPhone.

Not for sure. Not a fact.

A fact is that if I am not impressed, I will continue using my iPhone 4. Revenue opportunity missed? Yes. Customer lost? No

why do you keep making new threads OP?

I guess I just have a lot of things to say..Or ask. Sorry if my multiple threads annoyed u in any way.

Ok, so if ANOTHER phone comes out that looks exactly like the phone you say your friends weren't "impressed" with the first go round, they'll suddenly be lining up around the block for it? That doesn't make any sense..does it?

And if they're looking to upgrade to another iPhone because the 3G they have just isn't cutting it anymore, why wouldn't they go for the much cheaper iPhone 4 if it looks exactly like the new 4S? Especially if retina displays, faster processors, etc. mean nothing to them. Your post only strengthens my argument. Thanks!

Case and point: iPod nano 6th gen. Awful product, and a downgrade from the 5th gen in general, but it still sells. The apple store was sold out of all colors but orange when a friend of mine went to buy one.

You are EXACTLY right...I will not argue that one bit. But the poll says something. Would you ageee that there are MILLIONS of apple fans out there that would be totally let down with just a spec bumped iPhone 4..and therefore not buy it?

And then you have the people who never owned an iPhone or have old 3G models that reallywant to upgrade to a newer iPhone. Some of them will buy the 4S model for sure. But I'd have to believe that there are a big chunk of people in this situation who would NOT buy the new, more expensive 4S and instead opt for the cheaper iPhone 4. These are the people who love the looks but don't really care about a faster processor, etc.

I'm sure there are a lot of different situations that may warrant someone really wanting and getting a new 4S. Believe me, I know this poll really means nothing. But i know for certain that a LOT of would be iPhone 5 buyers are going to pass on a 4S. Enough i think to make Apple pay attention. Remember, Apple wants to continue it's smart phone domination. And I think a 4S will have them heading in the opposite direction.

Of course it's saying the same thing...Which ironically, makes total sense.

And if ur trying to twist it some weird way and u think I meant "consumers" as in people buying the 4S first, and then realizing they are disappointed...Well then, shame on u.

Honestly, ur post is the post that makes no sense. I've read it 10 times and still can't figure out what u mean.

I believe you are way off base with this one. In my opinion your way off on the amount of people who would be unhappy with this. Even half the people on here who say they would be unhappy and won't buy it.... will end up buying it

I think you need to give Apple a bit more credit. I think they have demonstrated that they know what they are doing when it comes to selling phones.

A 65% lose of revenue sounds like something you pulled straight out of you're eject drive. If I had to pull statistics out of thin air like you just did I'd say the technology savvy community makes up less then 5% of the overall market.

12% of MacRumors also said they won't get the next iPhone if it doesn't have LTE, even if there's some crossover, looks like Apple's next iPhone potentially will sell 70% less than expected :roll eyes:

Correct

80% of the people on here probably wants a 64GB phone

Less than 10% of the population in America wants a 64GB phone

Quite a disparity

Hmmm..."capacity"...let's see...I would figure that people who wanted more capacity were mostly people who enjoyed a lot of music, maybe some movies, tv shows, and the ability to download more apps. And since the people who enjoy music, movies and apps MUST already be a member of MR, your point makes 100% total sense. NOT!

Do u even realize how ridiculous ur above statement sounds?

"But one thing is for sure..If apple did happen to give us only a 4S device, a TON of would be customers would go elsewhere."

How did you figure that out from your poll?

Those same people in those huge departments who get paid millions of dollars who are devoted to doing exactly these kind of studies to know what will sell also gave us the iPhone 3GS, a phone with a slightly faster processor and a minor camera speck bump. Yup, they know very well what they are doing.
