The only thing in common with plex/infuse/etc is ffmpeg (even netflix uses ffmpeg). This is very interesting. Is it a fork of something else or did you write all this code yourself?
What are the network (firewall, ports open, etc.) requirements for this?
I watch Plex through Infuse when I have to be remoteNo, plex blocks that; without PlexPass you cannot remote stream. What are you doing to get around that?
Without adding something or doing something extra, that doesn't work. Please can you detail what you are doing to make that work? I understand you do not have PlexPass (or Plex Remote Watch Pass), which is required for remote access, and Infuse cannot get around that. Are you adding a VPN? Doing something else? Please expand.I watch Plex through Infuse when I have to be remote
I have had Infuse connected to plex for a long time, when i try and play something now through plex it gives me the message i need to get remote pass, but when i go through infuse no problem, what happens when you try? I don't have A vpn, could just be a mistake on their part with my account. I had SIRIUSXM trial 5 years ago, cancelled but still access Sirius no problem through my echo, so that is obviously a mistake, so who knows with thisWithout adding something or doing something extra, that doesn't work. I have PlexPass, so can't test, but the documented evidence that doesn't (or, shouldn't) work is very high. Interesting. Don't tell anyone. 🙂I have had Infuse connected to plex for a long time, when i try and play something now through plex it gives me the message i need to get remote pass, but when i go through infuse no problem, what happens when you try? Yeah I thought I read that 3rd party apps were blocked without remote pass but i have no problem, I have an account on plex forums with different username and have not said anythingI have PlexPass, so can't test, but the documented evidence that doesn't (or, shouldn't) work is very high. IIRC, Infuse basically uses Plex only for library management while handling the actual playback itself. So if your Plex server is already remotely reachable (port forwarding, VPN, Tailscale, etc.), Infuse can stream directly from it without relying much on Plex’s own remote streaming system or Plex Pass features.Without adding something or doing something extra, that doesn't work. Yup, my local AI buddy tells me this will be better enforced with Plex as they improve API use / functionality.IIRC, Infuse basically uses Plex only for library management while handling the actual playback itself. So technically you’re still using Plex server, just not the official Plex app for playback.
From screenshots it looks like you’ve made Plex reborn without all the crud they added over the years ? Is this your day job or you did this on the side cause it’s very impressive for one personThe only thing in common with plex/infuse/etc is ffmpeg (even netflix uses ffmpeg).
Everything else is me, since last November, working pretty tirelessly thinking I'd have it done much sooner. hah.
Dolby Vision was especially challenging -- I had to rewrite the Vulkan stack (GPU stuff) that isn't compatible with Apple Silicon to get it working properly. (Which is why, last I checked, VLC still can't play Dolby Vision Profile 5 on Apple Silicon)
The backend started as a Pocketbase app https://pocketbase.io and the rest is implemented as Go extensions
The web frontend is Qwik, which is known for being fast and efficient. no flickering. server rendered pages with social unfurling. I really do obsess over these details. https://qwik.dev
The native frontend is SwiftUI
I'll work on Android if there is interest but I expect the web app can get you really far since Android tends to treat Web Apps with respect
What ads in Plex can you not disable? I see no ads, but I don’t use Plex’s media, I only playback my own; is that the only difference, and why you are seeing ads? Or if they don't let you hide the links down the side that are for "their" libraries. I don't want their stuff, and I don't even want to see their stuff. Lets remember, Plex started out as a free program and here we are.
My issue with JF is remote viewing. It’s that simple. If they could integrate SSO infrastructure I’d give it another go; I’ve got the package fully deployed and ready to spin up again anytime…
I don't even know if I would do $150 at this point with other free options out there such as Jellyfin... Don't get me wrong, I love my Plex setup... but if they change their minds on the whole "lifetime" thing or start pushing more ads and stuff that I can't disable, I will start looking. To be fair, I am already looking at Jellyfin for my movies... Music is still with Plexamp.
Are you saying Plex has ads now? Sorry, I’m not sure what you are saying. When I (and my users) use Plex, there are exactly zero ads. Please clarify.Or the start pushing more ads and stuff aka anything that is theirs that I can't disable... So I am looking at the whole streaming service, dvr, on-demand stuff that they are pushing or if they get desperate for ad revenue and force ads before my content. I ONLY watch and listen to my content. That is what I mean...
Jellyfin is not a "finished" as Plex when it comes to remote viewing... at least in my opinion.
That is true. For most iOS, iPadOS, and AppleTV, I use infuse with my Jellyfin.Or the start pushing more ads and stuff aka anything that is theirs that I can't disable... I'm not the person you responded to, but https://plex.tv is a page covered in content that is streaming on Plex. All of that content is ad supported. Accessing your own library isn't even mentioned on Plex's homepage anymore. -- but I assume the confusion is that we don't see ads when we watch our own content? Only if you’re playing plex provided content, not your own. Like “live tv” or “movies and shows” that stream from Plex, not your own.Are you saying Plex has ads now? Sorry, I’m not sure what you are saying. When I (and my users) use Plex, there are exactly zero ads. Please clarify.
Understood; I’m very clear that when I watch Plex’s (the company’s) content, there will be ads, as the content must be supported somehow.I'm not the person you responded to, but https://plex.tv is a page covered in content that is streaming on Plex. They're also selling all of your data: https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/ -- the list is much longer than I expected (100 named companies they resell to). Those companies also use that data to feed back into ad targeting systems (outside of the Plex platform).
Agreed.Only if you’re playing plex provided content, not your own. Like “live tv” or “movies and shows” that stream from Plex, not your own.
The data selling was the part with which I was not comfortable. And they changed that years ago. Bye, Plex.I'm not the person you responded to, but https://plex.tv is a page covered in content that is streaming on Plex. All of that content is ad supported. Wow, I went to that link and it explains what to do; however, it doesn't appear to show HOW to get to that page to set options. Maybe I'm obtuse but do you have the location of where I can check/change those settings? They're also selling all of your data: https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/ -- the list is much longer than I expected (100 named companies they resell to). I had the same reaction -- you have to login, and then it changes to reflect your account's state. I think there's a subtle link somewhere above the formWow, I went to that link and it explains what to do; however, it doesn't appear to show HOW to get to that page to set options. Thanks! Went to the page, clicked ‘all no’. Took 20 seconds. Appreciate the link!Wow, I went to that link and it explains what to do; however, it doesn't appear to show HOW to get to that page to set options. Maybe I'm obtuse but do you have the location of where I can check/change those settings?
