Saurik is not minting money. He's comfortable, I'm sure, but he's not getting rich. Most Cydia revenues (which are a small percentage of only the paid apps...he doesn't even put ads in Cydia) go right into the company.

Also, Saurik is intimately involved in every jailbreak released. It is he who provides the Cydia bootstrap that's essential to making your jailbreak actually do something. And without his constant work on MobileSubstrate NONE of the most useful Cydia tweaks would be possible.

I'm pretty sure I see ads in every page of any app/tweak I see.

I am sure he is more than comfortable, just because he contributes codes that only benefits cydia does not mean he is jailbreaking.

As of April 2011, Cydia had $10 million in annual revenue and 4.5 million weekly users, with $250,000 in profit after taxes annually.

This made me laugh, literally. Quite possibly the biggest misinformation in this entire thread?

No advertisements in Cydia - really?

Saurik only "comfortable" and not getting rich - really?

Are you his lawyer, accountant or PR rep by any chance?

Wow.

No matter if he's comfortable, making plenty of money or whatever he deserves every penny he makes.
The man is a pioneer and revolutionized the iphone JB scene. Dont hate cause he's successfull, congradulate the brother.
Without him my iphone would be stock and boring.

$250,000 is living comfortably, not rich, especially in Cali, which I THINK he is currently residing.

As was said before, $250,000 in PROFITS does not equate to what goes into his pocket. He probably reinvests this (not included before the bottom line profit figure). Seeing as it's run as an LLC, his own wage/salary isn't necessarily that figure, and is very likely below that.

Even still, I think the man deserves to be a millionaire. He is the grandfather of making jail-breaking what it is today. We could live without the exploit finders like pod2g (though we are fortunate to have the likes of his talent around), but without Saurik, we would be SOL.

If you are referring to my comment above yours, I was NOT hating or criticizing Saurik. I was merely mocking the BS comment(s) made by that one guy where he apparently had his facts twisted.

Believe me, I understand his importance in the JB scene.

You must be the 1%.

God bless the 'American Dream' if $250,000 annually is only considered "comfortably.'

Yikes.

No I'm not but I hope that my hard work will put me there. $250,000 is a great salary don't get me wrong, but in the NYC area it wont go as far as it would in Nebraska.

Hey he's the only one out there running a third party app store... So if he gets rich, who cares.

250k after taxes is damn good. You'd have to be earning closer to 400-450k gross to keep that much after tax (assuming that comes from a salary). Even in Cali you can live beyond "comfortable" with that much. Don't forget saurik doesn't have a wife or kids. So even with 250k gross In Cali or NYC, I'd consider him rich.

I don't know how much saurik keeps, but my understanding is that Cydia is basically a 1-man operation. And I'm not sure how much reinvestment really goes into it considering how little has changed in the past few years.

I thought the title was about @pod2g & @i0n1c catfight! how did Saurik even get into this? Apple has there App Store Saurik started Cydia 3rd party store back in the day. As others said without the Jailbreak world wouldn't be what it is today with out him.

I0n1cs rant basically stemmed down to how he doesn't like others being able to make money as a result of public jailbreaks. Saurik is arguably the greatest beneficiary of more jailbroken devices. Hence the discussion of Saurik.

Has he done a lot for the community? Of course. But who knows if someone else could've done a better job -- I always thought installer and icy were faster back in the day. But they went out of business because Cydia was installed by default with most of the jailbreaks

Actually for 2012 it's ~ $350,000

He's not taxed at corporate levels.

I think this thread has run it's course for me. To many people throwing stuff out that they don't know or fighting with people I respect or just to much BS. Popcorn is now stale.
