I don't think anyone is claiming that Android is better than an iPhone.
We are saying that we may have to look at Android if there are no future jailbreaks as our ability to customize will end.

Exactly. The situation with tethering is particularly annoying for me because I use a carrier that makes no distinction between phone and PC data usage with their SIMs (i.e. they allow tethering implicitly) but because they are not an "approved" Apple carrier there is simply no way to enable tethering unless I go down the jailbreak route and install TetherMe. The phone obviously has the capability, the carrier doesn't mind, so why the **** can I not use it? This is with an officially unlocked 3GS, but I assume the situation is unchanged with the 4 and 4S.

I'm going to end rant bc I could go on, and on, and then on, but I didn't mean to offend anyone looking at androids but sometimes it seems like the grass is greener on the other side. It is in some aspects and isn't on others. I'm not posting this as a "iSheep" but as a person who has used almost every android in VZw lineup. When and if you make the transition you will miss things that work flawlessly(IMO) on iOS that can and do work(sometimes) great on android.

The iPhone IMHO is without question the best overall option out there for those looking at a smartphone.

While I disagree with some of your points, I respect that you bring real-life experience with both systems to the table. Far too many (not all) Android and Iphone fanatics have had little to no meaningful experience with the other option. Playing with one in the store once, twice or even three times or playing with a friend's one night, is not real-life experience. Actively using one for at least a few weeks gives any critic more credibility. Personally, I don't see either the Iphone or Androids as better, I see them as different. And, yes, I have had 1+ years experience with both.

Exactly.

I mean, hardware wise, Android phones are superior in every shape and form. I'm thinking their performance will increase as Google continues to lock down Android more and more. But yes, iOS products have great efficiency in terms of performance when you look at their hardware.

And I agree. Android is inferior to iOS overall and to the average user IMO. But I refuse to be locked into stock iOS. The 'theme' is outdated and ugly and I like choosing my own themes, and some small yet key functions like quick reply for texting or the awesome tweak apps like Springtomize are too good to pass up. I'm glad Apple is STARTING to take cues from the JB community in terms of the camera/volume button and the notifications being different, but they still have a long way to go if they are going to make jailbreaking near impossible and continue to limit the features/accessibility of iOS.

I don't think androids performance will increased if it starts getting locked down. Android OS is made for 400 different smartphones so the OS has to work with all different types of hardware this is where it takes somewhat a performance hit. If android taylors thier OS to a specific hardware then we would probably see excellent performance from them. This is where apple has it right their iOS is made for their hardware. That's why the A5 clocked at 800mhz is faster than an android clock at 1.2 ghz.

People I know debating what to get between an Android or an Apple phone always ask, "Show me the specs". I have to explain to them that Androids NEED those specs to perform even remotely smoothly. People who don't know anything aren't going to know anything. They usually go for gimmicks and end up with a clunky phone that they barely can fully capitalize usage on. I can get what I need done on my iPhone quickly and effectively. No gimmicks, no strings attached. It really is my Swiss Army Knife. The customization/small tweaks is all that's missing and thus why jailbreak is so important.

please stop the android vs iOS battle... go do another thread instead of filling this one with stuff unrelated to the release of the jb and pod2g blog.

Sorry to start the Gr8 debate again, just itching to get on this thread and see a JB at my disposal.

new twitter post from pod2g, anyone translate?

Hey, parmis vous, est-ce qu'il y a des avocats fiscalistes ou des experts comptables pouvant m'aider? Si oui: ios.pod2g@gmail.com.

Hey, among you, is there any tax lawyers or accountants can help me? If yes:

So while we're on topic I just bought some gummie bears:)

I prefer M&M's hard outer shell with chocolate center. Melt in your mouth not in you hand. Vs soft gummy bears.

I'm a tax accountant.

5.1 beta 3 closes the exploit. If you are gonna upgrade to 5.0.1, better do it soon.

Very good info.

As we aren't hearing anything in regards to an unlock, let alone the proper baseband in 5.0.1 that would work for an unlock, I'm getting a bit anxious. Personally, I'm going to rely on the possibility of an unlock working on 1.0.13 and take the plunge on 5.0.1 tonight.

I'd rather wait to see what MN officially has to say, but I'm getting anxious about the signing window closing for 5.0.1..

BL.

Idk, I'm sure we would all like to think they have another one. But, they seem to have had a exploit for A5 and 5.0.1 for a while just getting it in seems to be a problem. Either way, I don't need a unlock but it would always be nice to have that option for those who don't. Idk how reliable iphoneblogr is(never been there) but I read that post last month. Hopefully there is something they know that we don't. I haven't seem MN tweet anything about tho. Hopefully this JB drops soon before 5.1/5.0.2, so if anything(while unlikely) were to happen during JB we won't be forced to update to the already released patch for JB. Anxiety at a all time high now;-)
