one of my friends asked me today for good measure, and I told him pretty much no but you never know so I thought I would ask here. Are they waiting for apple to release 5.1? I didn't think so because I thought someone mentioned that they patched it for 5.1.
There are two schools of thought:
They have ANOTHER exploit that is different from corona (the one used in 5.0.1 A4 jailbreak), thus they are waiting for 5.1 to drop since it should be any day now, and then they will unveil a jailbreak tool for all devices on 5.1.
OR
As we know it, Corona was patched in the 5.1 beta 3 and they have no other exploit at this time, thus they have no reason to wait other than they are still trying to prepare it well.
At this point what they are waiting on is a good question. It appears to be fully baked. I think they are just toying with us.
They don't "toy" with us. Every decision they make, is carefully made, in regards to when new versions of iOS are being released or when unlocks are being completed.
the exploit/idkwhat used for the iphone 4 5.01 jailbreak has been patched in the 5.1 beta3 so, if our awaited jailbreak uses the same exploit(?) it's for 5.01. However, if they found a completely new solution, they might wait for 5.1.
It's somewhat unlikely, but totally a possibility! Given how close 5.1 is to being released, I really hope they either get the A5 jailbreak together soon ...
anyone know if the jb program that will be first released will be for windows or mac? I havent jbroken in a while but back in the day i remember they all came out for mac first with windows usually a week behind
I think that Windows only gets shafted during beta releases of iOS and beta releases of redsn0w a while ago. From what I remember, when .9.10 was released though, it was released on both platforms at the same time and has been updated on that basis too.
5.1 is a month or two away in my opinion they'll wait for iPad 3
Doubt that. iPad 3, even if announced as early as Febraury per the loose rumors, won't ship for at least another month minimally. iOS 5.1 should have been long complete a while ago, unless there are mountains of great fixes like actual battery fixes or new features yet to be seen. I think Apple is waiting on the jailbreak devs to be honest.
No, best I understand there is a list of UUIDs that apple has that determines if a phone is locked and unlocked that is checked at each restore/activation.
Correct. It's all done "server-side".
I forgot all about that aspect and i do not have access to a Mac so i might be waiting awhile longer then most..
No, see above!
