i really don't get this, it really pisses me off now. Unless this guy who I've never heard of is just ********ting why would these devs make this big deal last night saying "HOURS AWAY" then only to say its days away. I will never donate again until there is a final product. I understand everything about them doing this for us and what not, but you don't taunt people. Its not right!

@0xOllie: @imrel0ad i think it is a matter of hours

One dev says one thing, and then another says something else....they should really get on the same page

Why are people so impatient for this jailbreak? :/ You've went months without one, a few more days won't kill you. Hours away could mean 72 hours away...people are reading too much into messages.

who has had their iPad 2 on 4.3.3 for a long min? lol

untethered jb ftw !
i will update my Pad today :D:eek:

i'm excited for the lag lol just kidding

edit: amg friday bye day as in bye boring phone LOL jk!

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untether to be released real soon
Hello dear readers,

I know the wait was long, too much long, but it's about to end! You'd be able to free your iPhone in some hours.

A tool named Absinthe and developped by the Chronic Dev Team will install the untether on your device. Also the iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) tool to help diagnose issues and repair things if it goes wrong.

This is a little scary I know, but the chance you break something is really small, since we made lots of tests to verify the process on different devices. But it is the first time we use the backup / restore functions of iTunes to install software, and there are maybe things we are not aware of.

As you already know, different security researchers put a log of energy to work out the different issues we had to install the untether on new devices.

Thus, a unified PayPal account was opened so that everyone who worked on the A5 exploits will receive a fair split of your contributions. Here is the link : contribute
As usual, contributions are not needed but are appreciated by developpers. By the way, thank you very much again for everyone who already participated. This is real nice.

Here is the complete list of Absinthe supported devices :
iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
Also, here is MuscleNerd's which explains the whole story in a really precise way: iPhone Dev Team blog post

I dont think people are impatient, it's more of the fact that the devs are getting everyone worked up by saying false updates like: "A few days away!" or "A few hours away!" - only to delay it some more.

It's like being promised that you'll receive a brand new car today only to find out you'll have to wait till next week to drive it home. Broken promises is what it is, I don't like it and I'm sure a lot of people here don't either. I appreciate everything they're doing but don't promise something if you can't deliver it.

Wonder what they mean "using the backup/restore function of iTunes?"

It's probably their workaround for the restore function with the A5 chip. I'm guessing his software tool has something built in to work with iTunes.

Please post a link to where anyone 'promised' when the A5 jb would be available. You can't because there aren't any.

The developers are badgered by whiners and self entitled twits who want to know when the A5 jb will be available. They do their best, with the information they have at the time, to answer people. Then these same ungrateful people whine and complain even more when it's not available when they think it should be. This complaining is probably a big reason why some of the talented people have left the jb dev environment. Who needs this abuse? A: Nobody.

Now to those of you who've actually jailbroken an iphone before, what's the average amount of time it took you to do so?

I brought my laptop, chargers, and an open mind in case by some chance, "a few hours" DOES mean today -_-...

But I was curious if I actually needed 3-4 hours of inputting texts like I did with my Android rooting...

I've never sat and watched someone root an iphone before, and all of the youtube clips are just cluster****s

Nothing remotely like rooting some of the android devices and more like a super one click if you were to compare it to something .

Less than 10 minutes, usually. It's automated.

...right
I think so too!

As he says himself;

you watch some bug will appear and it'll be delayed. Some hours could mean up to 72 I'd think. Most likely today/tomorrow though
