Nintendo, The Pokemon Company and Niantic's augmented reality game Pokemon GO is rolling out in the App Store now. The game is available in New Zealand, Australia and is propagating through the App Store around the world and in the U.S.

The game uses augmented reality and real-world maps to allow users to venture into the real world to look for Pokemon to capture. Once collected, Pokemon can be leveled up, traded and used for battle. They can also be assigned to defend Gyms from other players. Gyms, like Pokemon, can be found by wandering out into the real world.

When a player is wandering through their neighborhood and a Pokemon is nearby, the game will send the player a notification. Certain Pokemon and items are only available in select locations. For instance, water Pokemon are available near bodies of water while certain PokeBalls are located near museums and other points of interest.

Players can also purchase an optional accessory called Pokemon GO Plus, a wrist-worn device that syncs with the game and alerts users to events happening in the game within their physical vicinity, like the appearance of a new Pokemon.

Our sister site TouchArcade shared some thoughts on the app compared to its beefier, handheld cousins on Nintendo DS.
Pokemon GO is Nintendo's second game for iOS after Miitomo. Later this year, the company will launch two more games based on its Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises.

Pokemon GO is available in the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Hopefully the U.S. app store will roll it out soon as I want to see if it'll be fun to play or not.

Well, it's more important than Apple's prehistorically outdated, absurdly over priced computers.
Watch bands, streaming *rap, emojis and Pokemons are where it's at mon.
Please try to keep up. /s

I'm gonna say it...the game looks pretty terrible.

Should be funny to see how many people think this is Nintendo-developed or published though.

I'll still download it and try it out. But from what I've seen it's kinda bad. I just want an actual port of Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 and dare I say Goldeneye 007!!

I had high hopes for this game due to the trailer, but after looking at the gameplay, it looks like garbage.

Would've been a lot better if they had incorporated traditional battling (selecting skills to attack) and allowed invitations to battle with any users near you.

That battle against mewtwo at the end is something else. I can just imagine that many people in time square playing this dumb game and cheering like that. lol

Finally some App Store innovation. The casino style games rampant in the App Store has been done to death, glad something fresh is here.

I got the direct link to the APK for an Android device. Loaded it up, registered and realized. The nearest Pokemon was 2 blocks away. Don't exactly want to go out at night playing.

Hopefully the iOS version comes out before my walk to work tomorrow.

The game play isn't like how it was shown in the trailer.
    --- Post Merged, Jul 5, 2016 ---
The actual game play is nothing like how it was shown in the trailer. There is a recent video interview with all the companies involved in making this and it looked pretty awesome when they showed the actual game play. I think the video was taken at e3 or some one of those recent conventions. I can't remember exactly which website I saw it on, but if you google you can find it.

I wonder how much of a hit Ingress is going to take when people start playing this.
