Oh great! I absolutely cannot wait to jump on this craze that'll totally last longer than a week!

/s

It's the new Flappy Bird.

It's sad how out of touch you are. Biggest app of all time? More active users than twitter and tinder. More people using the app at one time then have ever been on facebook at one time. Clearly a fad. Just....a 20-year fad.

As Peter Griffen once said "who the helllllll cares"
I'm confused, because many do. Have you seen how successful it is? http://thenextweb.com/insider/2016/07/14/pokemon-go-continues-shatter-records/

Never understood this mentality, that last bit just sums it up perfectly. It's been a "fad" for 20 years. One of the most sold game franchises ever. "fad". I don't mind people disliking something but I really don't like it when they resort to making stuff up.

And you have 0. I'm sure the number of votes is entirely based on how many people agree with you and not with the posts position relative to the top of top of the thread. /s

Wow. I cannot thank you enough for opening my eyes. You're an asset to MacRumors. :)

Not many have 6 articles in under 3 days all on the front page. Not to mention multiple of those article simply announcing the app being released in a new country. I'd say complaining about too much coverage is accurate in this case or for any app with similar numbers.

Not many, but still some, it's happened before with other apps, with a similar amount of articles in a short period. Snapchat and Facebook are 2 examples off the top of my head.

Going to parks and beaches to stare at your phone. Like people don't spend enough time staring at their phones.

Thats up to me to decide. If I want to, I will. Why would you care if someone went to a park and looked at their phone ?
Are people enjoying them selves in a way you don't like really that bad ?

It's a joke, relax. I love every part about this Pokemon viral/hype. Everything better than another update about watch bands. Cant wait for the MR news (and comments) about the other Europian countries that get Pokemon Go. ;)

OK you're free to shut up about this game now. A month-long advertisement.

Hey, I seem to have bookmarked pokemonrumors.com somehow.

You could have skipped the article, or even skipped the thread on the forum, or did you just want some attention?

Why do people feel the need to do things like that? Its baffling. If you don't like it, ignore it and move on.

Yay! My son and I had much fun trotting round the local area to Pokestops and catching wild Pokemon. Does it have longevity? Not sure but today we have been smiling and we bumped into another pair of people hunting Pokemon, a friendly wave and on we went. So far, very pleasant.

Seems like MR has nothing new and exiting to write about Apple products. Can't blame them...

You're new here?

MacRumors has, since the day I joined in 2003, published non-Apple stories when a) the story is sufficiently big enough and b) the news intersects in a significant way with an Apple product. Both of those criteria apply to this story. I'm glad MacRumors is covering it. They should.

Apple has gone through many long stretches in the past where they were releasing nothing new and exciting. Steve Jobs oversaw many of those long, boring stretches. That doesn't appear to change what MacRumors covers.

It's still a fad. Doesn't matter how viral it gets, it's always short lived. There's always going to be records to break. This Pokemon GO thing WILL lose momentum, people will still be playing it but they will not keep up the level of viral it's at now. People who don't even like and have never even seen Pokemon are playing it, because it's popular right now and 'cool'. Those people will drop off the minute there's a new filter on Snapchat or some other s**t.

Before calling me 'out of touch' maybe you should brush up on your knowledge of how viral things work. Because it's a model that has been repeated time after time and it's always the same.

It took an extra week to translate it into British.

I think you'll find it's English. The same language that Americans are supposed to speak. Just because it was bastardised on its travels over the water, doesn't mean that your version is correct.

Um, it's the only damn thing posted anymore. It's old. We get it. People are using this goofy app a lot. Cool. Now move on.

Dear God, please stop, how much extra money are you making from these posts? At the very least put them on page 2 (or page 5).

It's amazing how many people think that by clicking the link, increasing the comment count, and encouraging others to click and comment in agreement or dissent, they're going to discourage MR from posting that type of content.

The correct spelling is "bastardized".

;)

Funny, I don't remember ever saying I expected that.

Not sure if that's sarcasm or just pure ignorance?

So funny when Mercans think that the b'stardisation of the English language they use is correct.
"England and America are two countries divided by a common language" (often attributed to George Bernard Shaw and/or misattributed to Oscar Wilde or Winston Churchill). I wouldn't call it so much sarcasm as wry humor, but take it as you will. I have friends from Australia and England, and am constantly fascinated and delighted by the differences in usage of a theoretically common language.

Its a horrible language with terrible grammar and unpredictable spelling. I resent the British for creating it.
The thing that makes English so terrific and so maddening at the same time is that everybody created it. It is, to some extent, a mashup of every language with which it has come into contact. That is why there are so many contradictions in spelling and possibilities for confusion in grammar.

Maybe instead of being so negative, you should give the game a try.
I think he has tried and can't make it work, and doesn't have a five year old around to explain it to him, so all he can do is rant.
[doublepost=1468524225][/doublepost]
NO MORE POKEMON PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MORE Pokemon, please! In fact, I'll have his Pokemon, I love it!
(Vikings break into song here)

I wonder how long is this hype going to last, a month or a summer or longer. Just curious.
Sliding scale. It won't suddenly stop one day, with some sort of "the hype is officially over" announcement and a wrap party.
[doublepost=1468524661][/doublepost]
Not sure how long the hype will last, but I've been playing Ingress for over 3 years. People will be playing it for a long time.
"Smurf or frog?"
(first time someone walked up behind me and said that, I jumped. Also, Go Enlightened!)
[doublepost=1468524918][/doublepost]
So basically, macrumors.com should buy up pokemongorumors.com and remove all mac content. I mean, for the love of Pete, you'd think the release to each new country of Pokemon were additional details on the latest tech in an Apple conference!

*grumble, grumble, mutter, mutter*
You're right - endless discussion of whether the camera cutout in the next iPhone is 5.5mm in diameter, or 6mm, is much more vital to the continuation of life on this planet.

BTW, just for the complainers here, the next WWDC is going to be Pokémon themed!

You're saying English got soggy on it's way here? That's kind of awesome :D

Or, you know, you could move on. Glance at the front page occasionally and come back when the page is sufficiently uncontaminated by Pokémon related news for your tastes. When a show you're avidly watching on TV finishes, do you just leave the TV on that channel and bitterly complain that the show that comes on after isn't something you like? Nobody is requiring you to read, or read the comments for, or comment upon, these articles.

I remember seeing exactly the same sentiment ("it's the only damn thing posted anymore. It's old. We get it. ... Now move on.") being repeatedly posted by unhappy people after the Supreme Court upheld gay marriage in the US, when there was much rejoicing by now-happy people, and much news coverage of said rejoicing. How about just calm down, realize that this one isn't for you, and let the happy people enjoy themselves?

There's 13 articles posted today, 1 is about Pokemon Go. Yea Pokemon is the only post being made anymore......

ETA: now 13, of which the latest is another about how the iPhone 7 may not have a headphone jack. Because it wouldn't be a normal day on MR in the last 2 months without an article on if the iPhone 7 has a headphone jack or not...

Seriously. It's called "English."
It's like people never went to English or History classes...

fun fact, british people used to speak in an accent that sounded more american than english back in the day

The saddest part of this is that now some really strange looking people are going to be mistaken for Pokemon. Bar fights aplenty.

found a pokemon earlier that flew over a homeless guys face sitting in the street. i had manners and didnt catch it*

*it was a zubat anyway
