"Hardcore fans"? Dude, it's one of the best selling series of all time. Each game sells in the tens of millions. Sure now it's enjoyed by hundreds of millions but don't try and pass off the original games as being niche. It's literally the second best selling series after Mario.
Brining facts into this. How dare you? You're ruining his narrative.

Glad to see you're capable of a reasonable and productive discussion. Everyone was talking about Flappy Bird. The world reported on how much money it was making. Two weeks later it was all over. Fads come and go.

Now I'm not saying Pokemon will only last 2 weeks because it will probably last longer. But this initial buzz will die down. Why are you getting so butt hurt about it? Did you make the app? Are you the CEO of Nintendo?

I'm sorry it means so much to you. Maybe try spending your time worrying about something more important.

Also your 'totem pole' analogy doesn't offend me. I'm not an app developer and I'm not working on anything. You're clearly not worth trying to have a discussion with.

I believe you're wrong. This app won't go away like Milli Vanilli. It will last a long while until something better in the AR space comes out.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are on the rise. Whether it is for gaming or for field trips and such, you'll see a massive growth especially in the mechanical engineering space and medicine.

This is Niantic's 3rd major application that has massive growth. First being Google Field Trip (smallest of the three growths but has been widely used in schools), Second being the big massive hit known as Ingress. And taking the Ingress model is Pokemon Go. Ingress revolutionized the AR space. It is massively used today and has a massive cult following with it. A lot of those members have now moved over to Pokemon Go. And why not? The game mimic's what the anime and previous games do. Go out into the world and catch pokemon's and battle them. That is the whole premise of the series and it works perfectly for this game.

Now consider this.... Have you seen Nintendo's market value before and after the release of Pokemon? They increased their value by $17B. That's insane growth! What is that going to do? It's going to support Niantic's funds to add more content to the game, hire more developers, and a whole lot more. They are already backed by Google. Niantic was once a small division of Google.

Unless there is a massive meltdown between Google, Nintendo, and Niantic, I do not see this going away anytime soon.

I am well versed in AR and VR. We'll see what happens but I can see those who aren't actually Pokemon fans pulling out of the game when something new comes out. People with a real interest in Pokemon will stick around.

FWIW, I had no previous interest in Pokémon (I knew the name Pikachu, but never watched the anime nor played any of the games). I'm one of the hardcore Ingress players mentioned previously. I picked up the game precisely because Niantic made it and I wanted to see what they could come up with. I'm finding it entertaining. I go on a walk every night, and I've played a combination of Pokémon and Ingress along the way this past week (where previously it'd be 100% Ingress). I don't see myself switching to something new that comes out, merely because it's new and popular.

I don't see anyone duplicating Pokémon Go's experience any time soon, because it's based on 3 years worth of refinement that Ingress went through and most importantly on 3 years of location/landmark data collected and submitted by millions of Ingress players (every PokéStop and Gym, worldwide, is an Ingress portal submitted by an Ingress player). That last will be difficult for anyone else to duplicate any time soon.

Exactly, Pokemon jumped the shark somewhere in the first week of August. It followed a classic fad marketing pattern.

Pokemon Go use declined when families went on vacation. Mom and dad took away phones so the kids would see the resort surroundings.

Kids get home, phones back out and other things on line have attention.

Love to see what is going to happen during the Christmas season for Pokemon Go.

You're clutching at straws and made up scenarios. These things don't work like that. The initial buzz surrounding the game is gone now, those users won't return to the app. It will continue to decline for a while until it stabilises at a much lower number of regular users.

I'm confused as to what your reply has to do with the comment of mine you quoted. Are you suggesting I should change my behavior based on what is or isn't most popular? I specifically said that wasn't a factor in my choice of games.

Sorry, might have included you in the quote by accident.
