Yup, it's a nightmare out there!
All you can do is buy from trusted sellers, or newcomers that include the box+manual. Always check seller reviews. And if in doubt fire them a message.

Some of the early GBA fakes couldn't trade, they'd crash when it comes to synching the data over, the same for when sending to Gen 4 and the saves were prone to being wiped. I don't know if they improved it.

Yea reviews noted saving not working and trading not working - 2 things I really need in a Pokemon game :)

Are the DS games as bad with fakes?

Right now I'm just giving people Pokerus. Don't worry about what you give me because I won't be giving you anything rare.

Great thanks - I'm terrible at time zones - I use the TimeScroller widget when I need to figure out different cities.
 
Sorry for forgetting about the Pokerus this weekend. If your guys are still infected I'd love to trade.

I discovered the whole Scatterbug evolution thing this weekend and the 18 variations of its final form: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/666.shtml

I've collected 8 variations so far.

Can we all report what variation we have and see if we can work together to help each other find all 18. I've got the Polar variation that is found in Canada and the New England part of America.

18 in all - not sure if I'll ever find them all - pretty wild what Nintendo/Game Freak did with this new guy

Oh very nice! I'm after the Polar one.

At what point is the skin set? Say you bred a Polar one, after it hatched and evolved would it remain polar even though my region isn't?

So here is how it works ...

You can trade Scatterbugs and evolve them in your game and it will evolve based on original region.

Any breedings done in the game will revert to your region's Scatterbug.

So some regions will be quite rare - what variation is yours?

Will have more Polars tonight.

That is default for you - mine is Polar (being in New Hampshire).

It is based off of your region that you have your system registered to. In the USA there are at least 4.

Hawaii, California, New England and Southern East Coast - not sure what states are included in those.

Rare ones included the United Arab Emirates - and they are only rare because less people are using the game in that region.

Awesome, then that means there's a good chance that my GF will have a Polar (She's in CT).

Yes - CT has the polar - which is actually pretty cool - my favorite variation is from Hawaii - what is known as the ocean variation - will probably train that one up and be a good fighter :)
 
So I finally decided to start real pokémon playing, and by that I mean EV training, IVs and so on... Previously I had just played through the story mode and catch as many Pokémon as I can, but now with online play I finally have some connectivity and decided to start caring about EVs :) And with Super Training and reset bags it's easier than ever...!
