well, i didn't mean to offend you. sorry for my non PC vernacular.

You didn't offend me as such, I just thought I should point out it's a crappy term to use as you didn't seem to realise that (even when arkitect pointed it out).

It's not about being "over the top PC", it's just about not insulting people and their friends and family, which, presumably, you didn't mean to.

i'm 23. not married -- it's not legal in either of our states -- but we've been together 4 years. (truthfully, we wouldn't be married yet even if it was legal. but we both want to someday)

Good effort though, brotha. :D It almost worked.......

Have yourself a fun July 4th- same goes to all of you married and single Forumers.....

I'll be at the pool all weekend with my hot bikini-wearing wife.:D

Thank you. Definitely had to ask.

Yes, you too. It's your first 4th here right?

Pictures? :p lol

Unfortunately, I can't post pictures that I take with my iPhone from my iPhone. Sorry to disappoint, TDD......

Nope, not my first 4th in the US- I lived in Chicago for 4 years while in school. It's my first 4th in Las Vegas though- nothing like relaxing by the pool, iPhone in one hand and a cold beer in the other.

single Forumers.....

Oh yea, rub it in :(

I meant married forumers and single forumers. No rub in intended. :)

In what states is it illegal to be married at age 23? Or is it illegal for something else I'm guessing...

I'm almost 27 (this month) and my wife is 23. Will be married 2 years on the 22nd. We dated for 3 years before getting engaged and then married 3 years after that. So we've been a couple for 8 years now. Having our first child (son) this month. He's due in less than 2 weeks but she's ready for him to come any day. We both love being married in part because we're both very family oriented.

20 year old male.

I will never marry for a many reasons. I am not marriage material nor datable.

I am not romantic or affectionate.

I am a cold hearted bastard.

So I'm told.

I think my biggest fear about getting married would deal with the amount of dedication I put into my work or my career. While I'm only in my early 20s, and have a girlfriend of two years (which does hinder my passion for work a bit), I don't know if it could be successful based on how much of a workaholic I am.

I can't help it, it's just... I'm passionate about perfection. And sometimes it's more a priority than my relationship -- which is difficult to balance.

Are we meant to call them male or female? Surely their family and friends would have exhausted their shock soon after the initial announcement...

You're allowed both. I'm not living with my girlfriend yet (she's still down at uni) but even then we work and study during the week and have "us" time over the weekend.

as part of the survey, you should also ask where people are from, in west MI, to be not be married at my age can be seen as odd.

Every time I go back to visit my family in mid-Michigan, I get asked repeatedly why I'm not married yet. I'm 32 and living in California now. You'd think that my degrees and awesome job would count for something, but apparently not.

Every relationship is an ongoing negotiation. You figure out what works for you and your partner. You can be successful in it, you just have to decide together what success looks like.

I'm a workaholic too, but I've somehow managed to keep my boyfriend for six years (five of which we've been living together). He's not as much of a workaholic as I am, so he doesn't really understand why it's important to me. But he does understand that it is important to me, and so he supports me in it. I make sure that I communicate to him how much I'm going to be working, and also make sure that I schedule time just for us.

Married last November, although we were living together seven years prior to that.

22 not married but will be considered common law in 3 months.

I, personally just don't see the purpose in getting married. I think its about as useful as a post-it note saying 'I love you' on it. I don't need a piece of paper to say that we love each other. But that's my opinion and it applies only to myself and my relationships

Yup. In Canada anyway, if your living together for 3 months. Which I think is silly, it should be 1 year minimum.

Leah, do you fall in the following areas?

live together for a significant period of time (not defined in any state)

hold themselves out as a married couple -- typically this means using the same last name, referring to the other as "my husband" or "my wife," and filing a joint tax return,

intend to be married.
