Yep, I will buy. Getting into video editing. So I need something powerful. Been waiting since July 2007 for the "New Mac Pro". ;)

Buying the New Mac Pro on January 16th

I will buy the new Mac Pro as soon as it is announced.
If it is not announced at MWSF, then I will buy the current Mac Pro and trade it in for a Nehalem Mac Pro when it comes out.

If AppleInsider is correct, then I hope to buy the new Mac Pro on January 16th.

From AppleInsider:

"Final Cut Pro group meet provides clues to Apple's MWSF plans

When a collection of Final Cut Pro user groups assemble to hold a meeting at Macworld San Francisco later this month, Apple will have a surprise presentation for its guests, AppleInsider has learned.

The January 16th gathering, which follows a day after Apple chief Steve Jobs' Macworld keynote, will feature "something super secret" from the Mac maker, according to the announcement.

Despite the nature of the group, the Apple unveiling is unlikely to include an update to the Final Cut Studio video production suite, which was updated in April and has rarely been updated during the San Francisco show in the past.

Historically, Apple has at times used professional audiovisual industry gatherings to discuss its high-end computers, including the MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and Xserve."

I did vote "Yes" by the way.
I think it is interesting that 10 percent who voted are waiting the the Nehalem Mac Pro. Good move!

If it gets a new look (i.e case redesign), I'll buy a new one. If not, I'll probably wait a week and pick up a 6-month old one via here or ebay - the current one has more than enough power for my needs (I only want one for the ability to add tons of ram and multiple screens).

Why is the case so important to some people?
I only care about what is in the inside.

That is more likely going to be a software release/preview...I'll take good notes.

Soooooo, will I replace the machine, NO, am I looking for some better mid-range graphics card options, ABSOLUTELY.

I'm with you, Michael73. I'm perfectly content with everything on my Mac Pro except for the video card. I assumed (incorrectly) that we'd be getting new video cards options every six months or so, so I stuck with the 7300GT when I ordered my MP the day they announced it back in 2006 (thinking a DX10 compatible card would be coming out soon). Instead, its been a year since DX10 cards were available for non-Apple Intel hardware, and nothing from Apple.

So, I hope there is a new Mac Pro on the 15th (though I'm not holding my breath), but only because I assume it has a new video card that we'll be able to order for our "old" Mac Pros.

I will be buying, not immediately though, prolly within a month or two for high end HD video. I have a G5 quad and have been waiting a while for an update. Currently, the Mac Pro is the biggest rip off in the computer industry, it is nearly 18 months old but the price does not reflect such. An update is welcomed and will surely be a much better value.

ash =o)

I for sure am ready to buy it, I already sold my iBook G4 so I could put that money towards it. I already have my Canon HV20 HDV camcorder ready to supply the footage, just need a monster of a computer to do all my editing.

With this information about support in 10.5.2 for the NVIDIA G92, it appears that a new PENRYN Mac Pro is a lock for rollout at MacWorld 2008. Do you plan to get one?

Just out of curiousity, I must have missed it, but where did you find into about 10.5.2 having support for the G92 Series?

Also, Here is a sample of the G92 Series Video Card, released in Feb/March '08.

I wonder if this would be enough power to shut all of us up about complaining of lack of video card power.

I'm looking at updating my PowerMac some time soon and keeping the ACD. Can't wait for updates because even though I know 2GHz G5 is not like 2GHz Xeon but I'm stuck on the numbers!

Do you recon it will be Phenomen or what product? Any ideas?

Ding Ding!
Same here.. Was about to pull a trigger on a x1900 as I have started to work more on video, but the news of G92 drivers in 10.5.2 got me thinkin..

Tried to ask in the other thread too : Is there any hope that the drivers from 10.5.2 would work in Tiger (10.4.11) too?

So the moral of the story is to get the best card with a new machine as that's what you'll be stuck with (without an expensive upgrade kit that you have to buy from Apple). Get RAM and HDs elsewhere.

If they release the penryn MP at MWSF then I'm definately buying one. If they screw us again then I will wait until they offer 2008 computer for 2008 prices. I would have to be insane to buy current MP. But seeing that I dreamt about SJ introducing new MP with blue ray drive but woodcrest processors I think I am not far from insanity. :)
Next 11 days are going to be so painful. :(

Yeah, I figure it'll be a noticeable upgrade from my 1Ghz eMac, although I will have to (at least temporarily) downgrade from two screens to one.

Only if it is an updated Mac Pro with the i5400 chipset and Penryn or better.

I would rather have the less noisy and less power-hungry Radeon 3800 series for the time being. Power shouldn't be a worry with a workstation though ;)

It would be enough for gaming and fare quite well in professional applications.

If I had that card I would think I've done did died and gone to heaven.
Obviously it will not be available for the new Mac Pro.
I doubt Apple will even make it available for the Nehalem Mac Pro.

This clearly shows the lack of innovation in the graphics market. Over a year later and still only 30% faster than the Geforce 8800 Ultra while using two cores instead of one.

This board will use in excess of 200 Watt or around.

I am not intrigued by the Radeon HD3800GX2 either...

I want a monolithic chip and not something stitched together for now.
