I turn off my ipad whenever i charge my device. Same with my iphone 5

My macbook is the only thing i dont turn off when i charge (if i can avoid it)

Rather than a smart-ass reply, how about you give me a technical, engineering based explanation why this apparently is a farce?

So I have to prove it is a farce, as if turning it off is the default, correct action? You provide a 'technical, engineering based explanation why' clearing the RAM provides a benefit.

I am not playing your game.

Turn off your iPad, and every other electronic device, overnight or even between uses for all I care.

turning it off? blasphemy !

on 42 days of continuous uptime, and counting. last shutdown was to calibrate the battery, which reminds me :p

I've rebooted once or twice when I suspect it's doing something odd, but I don't think I've ever powered it down. And other than occasionally running out of battery power, the original iPads my kids now use have been running continuously since the day they were purchased.

I've started using my iPad mini as an alarm. I like how you can choose a full song and not just a tone or ringtone.

There's an article on "Battery U" or "Battery University" that some users were discussing in another thread not too long ago..

They recommended not charging the device while using it - as the device would be putting energy out while trying to consume its appropriate charging rate and would confuse/deteriorate the battery more over time.

Now, charging while in sleep mode is pretty darn close to "off" - but, in that article they say that best practice for charging lithium-ion batteries is to do it while the device is fully off and to let the device get down to around 20% or so first before doing so. ill try to find the link.

It may make sense - but, sounds super tedious and will probably only make a difference long after the device's life with me.

That's my .02

Doesn't it turn on when you plug it in?

To fix it if something goes wrong, ect.

But turning off your iPad overnight to save battery...IS pretty dumb.

Just because you don't do something doesn't make a person who chooses to do it dumb. Calling people dumb with unsubstantiated argument only makes yourself look like a fool.

I don't turn off my iPad if I know I'm gonna be using it again within a few hours, but I turn I turn it off overnight because I find that the battery drains at about 1% every two to three hours if you just leave it on even with wifi disabled.

Nope, just leave my iOS devices plugged in at night. Hopefully, they will back up to iCloud while I'm asleep.

I don't think that leaving it on or turning it off will have any perceivable adverse effects on it at all.

There is one. If you are relying in iCloud to back up your stuff you might find that it doesn't for extended periods even that it only does it when screen is sleeping and it's plugged in. And only tries every 24 hours since last backup or last attempt.

If you power it off, no backups.

Has anyone actually had a battery go bad on an ipad? My old ipad 1 is still going strong and it never gets turned off either.

Go bad. No. Consume, yes. I had a launch iPad 1 which finally this year consumed. Fortunately it keep enough juice in it that I was able to do that trade in target had a few weeks ago

it will turn on..

No it won't. Not if you so as he said and plug it in and then power it down.

:) Maybe he/she's changed her mind since last year :)

Anyway....i turned mine off when I sent it to Gazelle. Now I've done a home + sleep button restart many times, but it has never crossed my mind that I should turn it off regularly.

For me its easier to just plug it in at night, then turn it off and in the morning turn it on.

All my iDevices stay on 24/7 when in regular use and get charged when required. I only shut them down when I know I won't be using them for a week or longer.

Computers, TV etc. at home get completely turned off when not in use, no need to keep them on standby. I also consider hibernation to be "turned off".

If I know I'm not going to use something for several days I will turn it off, to save my power bill more so than the item

Usually run it until it's under 10% then I just plug and charge it. Never turn it off. It stays on and in my bag until I need it, or on my coffee table. Working great, don't really think I should change anything up.

No, never. The only time I completely turn it off is during take-off and landing when flying, and that is about to change as well.

No I leave it on all the time. I don't see the point in turning it off especially as it doesn't drain much in standby. Even devices that do drain in standby are left on, as I think it goes against their purpose/function to keep turning them off/restarting them.
