What GPU heat did you get?

You guys are absolutely killing me, just cannot make up my mind if the riMac is considered a safe/good purchase or whether to wait...waiting until like October at the earliest for an update is going to kill me :(.

Interesting: I spoke to an apple rep trying to understand if these temperatures are ok (I got 104 degrees last time).

His recommendation was to do an SMC reset and if the temperatures are still high, I might need to have it checked.

I thought it was probably something he must advise from a suggestion book or something but I thought what the heck.

Did an SMC reset and a PRAM reset.

Now I am mostly on 101 degrees and sometimes at 102, but never 104. I wonder if this is just a statistical error or if it is really something that an SMC reset can help with.

I did replace the stock ram with 32GB of ram and never did a PRAM reset before now, so that might had something to do with it as well.
It's like a month that I'm saying that overheating is related to a sw malfunction, and tools like istat or macs fan plays with the smc...

I don't think iStat plays with the fan if I set it to fan control --> Off...

Depends, in my case I had to set it on "Default", I had problems with heat and it turns out was istat menu and macs fans control the cause, i reinstalled both and now it runs like a charm.

I'm only try to help :)

Of-course! help is appreciated. So the only question is, how can I check the temperature without these programs?

What is the maximum resolution this benchmark can test on a 5k iMac and what are the result of that benchmark (score, FPS, and temp)?

Test Result

Huh? Mine was 641. I wouldnt mind having his :)
Man :mad:My FAN will not automatic REV up?
Till applying 3rd party FAN control??

Here consistent 105 AOK then :)

You should check yours if or not AUTO REV Function still alive.

Try Macs Fan Control, it's free and in auto it will do a great job.

This new score is with the fan on ?

Throttling again, nice...at least it's "cool".

I think the only thing throttling is your brain, you still writing after all the proof I provide... and that is not throttling but I will not waste any other words answering to you :D

Hopeless

You're using third-party fan control though, right?

With istat menu installed is safer, I think they have to fix something, because sometimes (rarely) without Macs Fan it tends to block the system fan control.

Without any tool that plays with the fan control, so default Yosemite installation, the fan control works as it supposed to do.

If it's not, why GPU clock has never reached max? Fan speed is maxed out and GPU load?

GPU-Z sensor part should like this:

Maybe some figures will help you and others understand some basics about how to read a graphic and what the throttling works :

In the last screenshot you can see it in action, first there's a "up and down" to prevent overheating, when it's not enough the clock will drop again, more the temp goes up more the clock (and voltage) goes down.
Look also the RPM on GPU-Z is clearly not working.
And the max frequency is UP TO 850 with the BOOST (so more than "cruise" clock), it means the GPU can increase or decrease the clock based on workload or, in other cases than iMacs, like Desktop PC with big GPU and Poor CPU Power, insufficient inputs from CPU (CPU Limited), but it's not Throttling, that will activate only after X Temp. where X is decided by manufacturer to avoid failure, >104° is the case for the M295X.

And stop comparing NVIDIA with AMD, they have different ways to operate the clock, same story between different version of AMD chips.

I am not intrested in any ways your fan settings? It was just an observation, that the fan "bar" was full and GPU bar was not.

Just download the HW-monitor and were done. All in one software. I think your full of schaisse. Those shots dont make any sense, compared to your earlier shots.

Too much variable here and there. Those shot are not even the same run, shot from here and shot frome there. All put together to look nice, for some reason.

What is that you are chasing here? You have the only iMac with M295X that works ok or you find a cleaver way to say "hey, use fan control, i did and look at me now" and we all should clap our hairy hands for this genius from Spain or were ever?

Anyways, i'm done here.

Take it easy, my iMac is the same as all the others, I had the fan problem and considering that a lot of people here is struggling to deal with the issue of an expensive machine not working properly, I thought that was nice to point out the cause of the issue and to provide a solution.
