poll says it all really, i will continue to laugh at pathetic posts to put Apple down in these forums.

pathetic trolls are pathetic.

i particularly enjoyed the portion whereby the same problem was replicated on the other phones. dissing the other makers to shut their trap about being able to hold it anyhow they like. and the media for blowing it out of proportions.

I think you got it right about the media, and I'm big enough to admit I was falling for it. I do wonder how carefully the demo phones were selected? Are they generally representative of how widespread the problem is, or were these hand picked because they have the same problem from others that do not?

In the end i have now lived with the phone long enough to know that this left hander would not return it. I can live with a cased iPhone 4 because it does everything else so well. I've gone through the four stages as Steve knew I would ;)

"Apple's attempt to draw RIM into Apple's self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple's claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public's understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple's difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM's customers don't need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple."

What's the point of this? Like anyone expected the other manufacturers to say anything different. Notice there is no denial anywhere that their phones perform the same way as the iP4. From what I saw in the video, RIM should also offer free cases to Blackberry Bold owners. All Blackberry owners should be up in arms over RIM's deception and denial. Right?

i am completely satisfied.

the 33 people who said they are completely unsatisfied must be Android trolls who don't even own an iPhone 4.

hah! you're right. they didn't deny it. interesting :)

I'm curious for those who marked 'completely unsatisfied', what would have appeased you?

I marked 'completely unsatisfied'.

I think it's pretty sad how it all played out. From the beginning the problem was identified and Apple claimed it was a software issue that would be fixed. I thought, that's legit, nothing is perfect on release but I was surprised it wasn't caught during their extensive testing. Now Apple admits it's an issue (sort of), but tries to play the "well, other phones have the same problem". No doubt if you cover any part of where the antenna is located on any phone, you will lose some signal. However, I have yet to see any phone that will lose complete signal. Now, this really is only for an issue for those of us in subpar coverage areas which, unfortunately, can be a lot of places given AT&T's stellar network. Apple also goes on about how they have invested $100 million into its antenna testing facilities and they have 18 PhD Scientist & Engineers that worked on the iPhone 4. That's wonderful, but honestly that's just adding more salt to the wound. With that type of equipment, testing and knowledge yet we're having this issue with the iPhone 4.

I've owned the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and now the iPhone 4 and never had any issues previously until the iPhone 4. I was one of the customers to receive it on the 23rd and I noticed the problem when browsing the web at work where I normally did with my iPhone 3G. It's an area of weak coverage and I would occasionally see "Searching..." but with the iPhone 4, it was occurring at least twice as often. I started browsing the forums to see how other users reception was and sure enough, I started reading about people have issues as well. So no, I'm not one of the users who just read about the issue and are not satisfied because the iPhone 4 isn't perfect.

What would have appeased me? A recall, but I know it will never happen because Apple would lose more money than they're willing to.

I'll bet anything if Apple released a second iPhone 4 design but with an internal antenna (heck, it can even be thicker), everyone would return their current iPhone 4 for the redesign -- even your fanboys who think the iPhone 4 is perfect. Yeah, the iPhone 4 is definitely a beautifully designed phone but it's kind of pointless if I have to use a case for it to function properly all the time. For the record, I'm keeping my iPhone 4 because there is no better alternative and the bumper fixes the signal loss issue for me. I'm just disappointed I'm pretty much forced to use a bumper for the phone to work.

Thank you to everyone who has voted so far.

It's interesting to see that many are quite satisfied with Apple's response (about 60% rate Apple's response 7 or higher), but also interesting that the second highest group represented gave 1 out of 10.

The video was an example of Apple's *manipulation. I have the same model BlackBerry Bold 9700 on AT&T. It maintains a strong signal, and excellent voice quality. While my iPhone 4 is not as good of a phone, it doesn't matter since I always carry two smartphones. The iPhones strength is it's browser, which I use a lot. It's too bad that Apple points the finger at others, and says "see they all do it". Funny how during the WWDC keynote I attended, Jobs made such a big deal about how superior the new antenna is. He went on to declare it the finest smartphone ever. Not once did he speak honestly, and disclose the now famous Apple attenuation issue. Even more amusing is how not a single fanboy will mention the deception.*

Now to the good news.*

This is one of the best things to happen to Apple. If they can find the courage to be honest with themselves, they can learn from this debacle. They still have time to reverse their stubborn stance and take responsibility. If they did that, they would win big. It would restore respect and credibility on all fronts.

You are wrong...do you remember this picture ? why did it have a case.....?

500x_case1.jpg

Because even the testers preferred the 3GS form factor? Because it was the only case available? Because they were also testing the free case offer? :D

I voted 8. -2 because they didn't actually fix the issue, which seems to be real.

Everything else seems legit. I'm a lefty so I hold the phone with my right hand, hopefully I will be unaffected :p

I gave it a response of 8. The actual factuals are fine, the solution is fine.. the way jobs presented it was arrogant (to me) and ridiculous. The opening with the fan video was a bitchslap to all purchasers. The spun statistics were also bad.

the apple care calls about signal drop were .55% - you don't call apple about dropped calls, you call att. Let's see those metrics.

I'm fine with the end result, it was the right move, but the ceo representing such disdain for the consumer while painting the happy 'we love our customers' line was an affront.

Apple never replicated anything close to iPhone problem. Did you see them shut the reception by touching competitor's phone with one finger?

To be honest, it was a 10, and that's being objective. They're giving you a free case if you want to keep the iPhone and you can always return the phone if you don't. I don't see what else you people want.

In fairness, I think some people wanted the phone to work properly without needing a case. Not everyone wants a case on their phone...

I am completely satisfied.

I figured out an ingenious way of fixing the phone by myself, simply move your hand.

Now on top of me never having a dropped call, I get a free case. Sounds good to me.

I give it a 2 overall.

The free bumpers idea is about a 5. It would have been a 7 if they had done it on day two or three of the crisis. However, after all of the lies, arrogance, disrespect, lack of accountability, etc., all of which still remain today, I have lost my faith in Apple. Whereas on my last electronics cycle it was the default choice, Apple is just like any other company now. I'll be thoroughly checking out my other options before making a purchase decision on the next go-round.

Yup, I gave them a 1. Until Steve Jobs admits that the phone is defective, they won't get any respect from me.

I'm satisfied with it because they did take the time to address all of the issues and provided an open forum for questions. It pretty much like "Apple unplugged".

Obviously you can't please everyone and therefore some people are not happy because they were not told what they wanted to hear.

But all in all i liked it and i was loved the comment steve made about stolen phones. He has an awesome sense of humor and Gizmodo earned that comment with their actions.

what the heck are they mad about?

They just held your phone up and gripped it.

Thats not an insult, it was a means to explain their complex predicament.

As for the quote "you don't need a case to hold a blackberry"

Well you don't need one to hold the iphone either.

Before this, people didn't even know what attenuation was.

You hold any phone with you hands in an extreme way, it will attenuate.

You hold any phone with a case, less attenuation.

thats all they were trying to say and to not be a separate target in this consumer complaint uprising.

I voted a 4

They admitted a problem and gave a bandaid. I think they knew of the issue and sold it anyways.

They also admitted other issues, sensor, and stated that they would fix those in the future.

I want to know what Apple knew and when they knew the iPhone 4 was full of bugs and issues.

What would have made me happy.....not sure but making me put a bumper on together and make calls and telling me to hold on for a fix so the sensor doesn't turn on when I am making calls wasn't it.
